In real life, Yellowstone star Kelly Reilly could not be more different from the character she portrays on screen. That being said, she's channeling a bit of Beth Dutton with her latest career move.
Good Housekeeping spoke exclusively with Kelly, who is joining the leadership team of Ammunition Wines and Whiskey as a creative partner. "This is my first partnership I have ever done with any product ever," she says, admitting that when Ammunition co-founder Andy Wahl first came to her with the idea close to two years ago, she was "not looking for a partnership with anybody."
What drew the Pride & Prejudice actress in was the "challenge and creative thrill" of marketing whiskey to women in a more authentic way. "I'm a bourbon drinker, I know plenty of women who drink bourbon, and I imagine there would be a lot more if it was maybe presented in a way that would appeal to them," she tells us.
Ammunition's whiskeys are "aged in the wine barrels of their Ammunition wine (Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon), which I think will also appeal to women," Kelly points out.
She also has another personal connection to the drink. "There's a romance and a magic with whiskey. And my husband [Kyle Baugher] drinks Old Fashioneds, so that was always a drink he would have." It was even served at their wedding, and Kelly reveals, "we shipped over a lot of bourbon to England when we got married."
But when it comes to her go-to cocktail, she likes "something a little bit sweeter" than an Old Fashioned.
"There's a blood orange liqueur which I love to pair with Ammunition, called Solerno. I put that over crushed ice, Topo Chico for the bubbles, and then I make my own vanilla simple syrup." For a festive twist this holiday season, you could also swap in our cranberry simple syrup recipe.
To serve the cocktail in true Kelly Reilly style, make sure you opt for a quality glass. "I like a beautiful glass. I want to feel like I'm drinking something expensive, something luxurious and heavy and substantial. Just the weight of a good glass, it's a ritual."
Cheers to that!
