If you thought Kelly Clarkson couldn't get any more impressive, she just made an iconic movie song into something completely unrecognizable.
The singer is famous for her "Kellyoke" covers on The Kelly Clarkson Show, and she decided to dip into the world of The Wizard of Oz for the November 19 episode. While fans may have expected her to cover something like "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," she took a very different direction for the track she chose.
As Kelly stood on stage wearing an all-black mini dress, she shocked the audience by performing a version of "If I Only Had a Brain" made famous by the Scarecrow in the 1939 movie. And if that wasn't enough, she took the song to a totally different place by slowing the melody down and giving it a darker, moodier spin full of dramatics.
Given Kelly's unique ability of making songs completely her own, seeing her perform an off-the-charts version of the usually upbeat tune blew folks away in studio and online.
"Made a Wizard of Oz song to a Bond song that's impressive," one person wrote on Instagram. "Kelly on Broadway WHEN. Kelly on James Bond soundtrack WHEN. Kelly on EVERYTHING WHEN ❤️," another declared. "Why didn't Wicked cast Kelly Clarkson?" a different follower questioned.
Kelly certainly has us keeping an eye on her after hearing this incredible take on The Wizard of Oz! What's more, she performed this on the same day the cast of Wicked appeared as guests ... so maybe she'll venture into that world for another Kellyoke.
And for those wondering if this is the first time she sang a song from The Wizard of Oz, it turns out she's done it previously. Back in April, she performed a stirring version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," leaving everyone in awe of just how talented she really is.
