It's official: Craig Melvin has been promoted on the Today show.

Back in September, folks were devastated to learn that Hoda Kotb would be stepping down as host of the NBC morning show. After wondering who would be taking over her spot, Today surprised viewers on November 14 with news that Craig will be the new anchor during the 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. hours. What's more, Craig will start his new job alongside Savannah Guthrie on Monday, January 13, 2025, after Hoda leaves on January 10.

"I am beyond excited and grateful," Craig shared. "I had a lot of conversations yesterday with a lot of people who mean a lot to me. I want to obviously thank NBC and the folks here to 'deem' me worthy ... I've enjoyed just a lifetime of blessings, and this is the latest in a long line of blessings."

When Today viewers learned about Craig's new position, they were ecstatic.

"Craig is such a stellar human, we all adore him and his whole family! Well deserved πŸ‘β€οΈ," one person wrote in the comments of an Instagram clip of the announcement. "Congrats! No one is more deserving of this than you. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘," another declared. "πŸ‘The only choice! Congrats to @craigmelvinnbc πŸ‘," a different viewer added.

Although there's still some time before Craig makes his official Today debut next to Savannah, no one is more excited about his new job than Hoda.

"Craig, you are made for this job. You were literally made for this job," Hoda gushed on air. "You are that kind of good. You have all the things that this job needs. You are the right person for it."

Craig has been essential to the Today show crew since he first became a co-anchor back in 2018. He had his own MSNBC daily show at the time, per Deadline, but he chose to step back from that position in 2022 to focus on Today.

Congrats, Craig! We can't wait to see what you do!
