It's a Big Bang Theory reunion — well, sort of.
Earlier this week, Entertainment Weekly announced that former TBBT costars Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch would be working together again for the first time since the sitcom ended back in 2019. The former Jeopardy co-host is set to guest star in an episode during season 3 of Night Court, a remake of the 1984 sitcom of the same name, which now stars Melissa and John Larroquette. According to EW, Mayim will play herself, turning up to court as a defendant and becoming friends with Judge Abby Stone (played by Melissa), who it turns out is a major fan of Blossom, a sitcom Mayim starred in back in the '90s. Things turn awry however when Abby finds out that Mayim is actually stalking her.
It hasn't been announced which episode this will be, but fans of the legal show don't have to wait too long with Season 3 set to premiere on November 19. Although though it's been five years since the duo were on-screen together, Mayim told EW she still feels like they should be performing as their now retired TBBT characters: Amy, a neuroscientist who ended up marrying Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Bernadette (Melissa), a microbiologist who married Howard (Simon Helberg).
"It feels like I should be dressed like Amy and she should be dressed like Bernadette," she told EW. "There's definitely a lot of surreal moments and just a huge nostalgia factor. Melissa and I were next to each other for nine years of our lives and shared a huge section of our time together, as did the entire cast." But she did say that even though the two are taking on new characters, there will be a few TBBT "meta references" sprinkled throughout the episodes to give fans a little something.
"The episode is kind of meta in the most meta way. Not fully breaking the fourth wall, but breaking the fourth wall of the mind of the audience," she said. "So it's pretty cute and I laugh a lot during rehearsal, so I'll have to get that out of my system for tape day." But the sweetest thing of all? Mayim couldn't stop talking about how exciting it was to support her friend, even if it wasn't a permanent thing. "I'd be happy to support anything that Melissa Rauch does, and the fact that there's so much overlapping interest here and it's such a great project for her just made me so excited to be even included in the small part of it," she told EW.
Although Mayim is only guest-starring for one episode (at least as of now) who knows how many other on-screen reunions we might see with any of the other TBBT stars!
