Interesting things are happening in the world of Hope Valley, and it looks like Chris McNally is seriously into the new development.

The actor stars on the hit Hallmark drama When Calls the Heart, which is currently filming its upcoming season 12. Chris also recently starred in the Hallmark movie Holiday Crashers, which aired on October 19 and he was in the middle of promoting in mid-October. When speaking to Swooon for TV Insider about his work with the network, the conversation quickly turned to what's happening on When Calls the Heart. While Chris couldn't exactly reveal major plot points, he did tease his character Lucas Bouchard may be going in a unique direction this season.

"Well, there is one of the new characters that's coming to town who represents a fairly strong opposition to Lucas, and I think within that is a spark of chemistry, and we will see where that goes," he told the outlet about what's potentially down the road. "I'm not sure yet, but I also don't want to spoil anything, but I think fans will be excited to meet this new individual and get to know them and follow that journey."

This certainly has our interests piqued! Especially since Lucas has only had one real love interest ever since he debuted on When Calls the Heart in season 6, it'll be nice to see him experience a little bit of love in his life.

As fans remember, Lucas caught the interest of Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow) and the two dated throughout seasons eight and nine. They later got engaged in season 10, but Elizabeth broke it off as she developed feelings for mountie Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry) and Lucas was in the middle of what would be a winning gubernatorial race.

Nonetheless, Chris is pretty adamant Lucas will be happy for Elizabeth and Nathan's current romance as When Calls the Heart explores that storyline in season 12.

"He's happy for her, but it obviously still stings," he added. "I don't think in Lucas' mind there's any changing this course. It's sort of the path has been set. He is coming to terms with it, and he's at peace with it. Does he wish that it was a different path? Yes, but at the end of the day, he really cares for Elizabeth and wants her to be happy."

Ooh la la!
