It's official, One Tree Hill fans. More than a decade after the show's final episode aired in 2012, it looks like there will be more to the story of our favorite group of friends in the North Carolina town.
In late August, fans of the drama were ecstatic to learn that Netflix was working on a spinoff series that would be a sequel to One Tree Hill. What's more, news broke that original cast members Hilarie Burton, Sophia Bush and Danneel Ackles would serve as the show's executive producers, with Hilarie and Sophia reprising their roles as Peyton Sawyer and Brooke Davis.
Although there hasn't been more information delivered about the premise of the series or who else would come back for the spinoff, many took to social media to share hopes that their favorite actors would return in some capacity. And when Bethany Joy Lenz and James Lafferty (who played Hayley James and Nathan Scott) were asked about their thoughts on being part of the One Tree Hill reboot, they both had some exciting thoughts about the prospect.
"I am absolutely open to being a part of a revisiting to Tree Hill," Bethany told Variety in September when asked about the One Tree Hill revival. "But as far as this particular one, I don't know. It's so early. I don't know if it's in pilot, I don't know if it's in series. I don’t know where it's at."
As for the potential to see James back in the world of One Tree Hill, folks may not want to hold their breath over this. He explained in the same article that while he's thrilled how much fans still love to watch and follow the show, he's busy working on another project that's close to his heart.
"Personally, I'm blown away by the fans that make a conversation like this even possible," he added. "Professionally, I'm completely focused on finding Everyone is Doing Great season 2 (starring his OTH co-star Stephen Colletti) the right home. Until then, consider me grateful for this moment and cheering everyone on!"
Fans of One Tree Hill are well aware that Bethany and James played Nathan and Haley, one of the show's well-loved couples. Their characters first got together in the beginning of season 1, and quickly got married in season 2. They remained together through the end of the series, and the couple endured a number of highs and lows throughout the nine-season run.
While it's hard to say if Nathan or Haley will come back to Tree Hill, at least we have some hopes on potentially getting more from them! As Bethany told TV Insider in June, there is a world where they are back on screen together again.
"I think me and James doing a [Hallmark] movie would probably be a super winner," she told the outlet at the time. "But we'd have to find exactly the right one because that's a big deal. It's got to be a really good one."
