He may have only been in one episode of Wednesday, but it looks like one character's appearance may expand into a bigger role on Netflix.

In the seventh episode of season 1, fans of the hit Netflix show were introduced to Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen), Wednesday Addams' (Jenna Ortega) quirky yet mysterious relative. He was there to tell his niece that not only was the monster she spent the entire season searching for a Hyde, but the library at her school, Nevermore Academy, held more information about the creature's destructive behavior.

While he only appeared on screen for a short amount of time, it seems fans loved seeing the iconic character cement his place in this iteration of The Addams Family franchise. As a result, Deadline announced on December 18 that a spinoff series starring Uncle Fester is in the works at Netflix.

According to the outlet, the streaming site is looking to expand its Wednesday series by creating a show focused on Uncle Fester, who is the brother of Wednesday's dad Gomez Addams (Luis Guzman) and has the power to generate electricity. What's more, Deadline reports that the show is already in its early stages, at the same time Wednesday season 2 gets ready to go into production sometime in 2024.

While there's not much that's been revealed about the Wednesday spinoff's storyline, we do know some key details about what's to come for Wednesday season 2. When speaking to Elle Fanning in Variety's "Actors on Actors" series, Jenna teased that the story is going to get more creepy and spooky compared to season 1.

"We want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more because it is so lighthearted," she said in a clip that dropped in June 2023. "I think a show like this, with vampires and werewolves and super powers, you don't want to take yourself too seriously."
