When Roald Dahl published his children's book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 1964, no one would've expected the story of Charlie Bucket stumbling on a golden chance to explore Willy Wonka's chocolate factory would become a phenomenon. And after almost six decades, a sequel and two movie adaptations, readers can't help but to keep falling in love with this heartwarming tale. While the original story really focused on Charlie and his backstory, fans are about to get a new perspective thanks to Wonka.

Academy Award nominee Timothée Chalamet plays Willy Wonka in the new film, where fans will get a background on how the whimsical character came to be. The movie follows Willy as he sets out on building his own chocolate factory, while also stumbling on unexpected roadblocks along the way. For instance, as he tries to make his dreams come true, Willy meets a group of people who are all trying to take him down.

Wonka promises a movie full of wonder, merriment and a giant dose of sweetness. So, you may be wondering where to watch and stream Wonka from home. Well, we have quite a golden ticket for you!

How to watch and stream Wonka:

As of right now, the only place folks can watch Wonka is if they head out to a showing at their local movie theater. But don't worry, because it won't be long before the movie lands on a streaming site.

Wonka is currently being distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, the movie studio that also produced the 2005 film adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. What's more, Warner Bros. is also the media conglomerate that merged with HBO to create the hit streaming site Max. If we look at where the other Willy Wonka films (including the 1971 version) are available to stream, they all live on Max, giving a likely indication that Wonka will eventually land there as well.

As far as when Wonka will have a release date, only time will tell. Other Warner Bros. movies, like The Batman, had a minimum of 45 days before they eventually dropped on Max, according to a 2022 report from Business Insider. Should Wonka follow a similar pattern, it's possible we can start queuing up the film sometime in late January 2024.

When the time comes for Wonka to stream on Max, you'll want to make sure you have an account set up. The streamer does offer a number of plans for you to choose from, with the lowest costing $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year. Once you have a profile made, click on the movie title page on Max's website or on-the-go with the Max app.
