It's official: Whoopi Goldberg can now add the title of "fashionista" to her ever-growing list of celebrated accolades.
The View host is known for receiving awards for her acting in movies and television, but this time around, she's being honored for her unique sense of style. In a photo uploaded on the show's Instagram on October 20, it was revealed that Whoopi received the American Icon award at the Fashion Group International (FGI)'s 39th annual Night of Stars Red Carpet Gala on October 17. As she accepted the honor for her influence in entertainment in New York City, The View's social team made sure that her fanbase got to celebrate her latest achievement as well.
"Bravo, @whoopigoldberg! ✨ ," read the official caption alongside a photo of Whoopi taken from a taping of the ABC daytime talk show.
When fans learned that Whoopi got the chance to be celebrated for creating her own path and style in Hollywood, it was no surprise that folks rushed to congratulate her in the comments.
"So deserving!! ❤️❤️," one person wrote on Instagram. "Love you Whoopi. You are one of a kind ❤️," another raved. "Anything Whoopi is a YES from me 🥳🥳👏🏾❤️," a different viewer added.
So, what is the American Icon award that the FGI bestowed upon the Sister Act alum? According to the description on The View's Instagram post, the prize is given to "extraordinary individuals in entertainment, fashion, beauty and culture." What's more, when she accepted the honor with a heartfelt speech, she emphasized how much she never expected to receive an award like this.
"Who’s luckier than me?" the EGOT winner explained in the middle of her speech, per Women's Wear Daily. "I’m in a room with people who do and think remarkable things. Thank you for letting me be in your presence."
