*Season 3 spoilers ahead*
When one case closes, another opens! Only Murders in the Building season 4 is officially afoot. And this time, it plans to take Arconiacs into untread territory.
Lifting the curtains on the Death Rattle Dazzle killer. The third installment of the whodunnit comedy reached its dramatic conclusion as Oliver (Martin Short), Mabel (Selena Gomez) and Charles (Steve Martin) pinned producer Cliff (Wesley Taylor) as the person who delivered the final blow to Paul Rudd’s Ben Glenroy.
Just one month after earning four Emmy nods, Hulu officially confirmed another season. It also fell on the heels of season 3 breaking records as the most-viewed series finale of 2023 for the streamer, per Variety. To quell the growing intrigue, here are all the official clues we dug up on Only Murders in the Building season 4.
Is there a release date yet for Only Murders in the Building season 4?
That's still under investigation. Season 3's first two episodes dropped on August 8, 2023, while season 2 began on June 28, 2022. Considering the series' track record, we suspect a premiere date of late summer 2024, though nothing has officially been confirmed by Hulu.
During The Hollywood Reporter interview, showrunner John Hoffman shared the exciting news of the writers' room starting up: "We didn’t get the official [renewal] till very, very recently, and the writers' strike was happening, so it was a mix of things, but we are very excited to get started."
In March, it was confirmed that the show had officially returned to filming after Selena posted a behind-the-scenes photo.

Who will be in the Only Murders in the Building season 4 cast?
Each chapter always introduces a revolving door of celebrity guest stars, tapping the likes of Tina Fey to Sting in past seasons. The only constant? Our favorite true crime podcasters: Selena Gomez as Mabel Mora, Steve Martin as Charles-Haden Savage and Martin Short as Oliver Putnam.
Season 3 also left the door open for Meryl Streep's Loretta Durkin to return, as she and Oliver all but rode off into the sunset together. She ended the season with an offer to act in Los Angeles. Looks like we'll see that play out as The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Meryl's return for season 4. Meanwhile, Selena's Mabel cut off her romance with Jesse Williams' Tobert, leaving room for a new love interest ahead.
Joining Meryl as a recurring character in season 4, Saturday Night Live alum Molly Shannon is slated to play a "high-powered LA businesswoman who finds herself drawn into the world of the investigation in NY," per Deadline's description. Variety also announced on February 22 that Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria has been added to the star-studded lineup. However, the nitty-gritty details of her recurring character are still under wraps. And most recently, the outlet confirmed that Kumail Nanjiani will have a recurring role.
Do we know anything about what might happen in Only Murders in the Building season 4?
Speaking of returnees, Jane Lynch reprised her guest role as Charles' longtime stunt double, Sazz Pataki, in season 3. Her character always brings a sense of comedic relief, but her final appearance in the last episode titled "Opening Night" was anything but funny.
In the finale's cliffhanger, we see a bullet pierce through the window of Charles' apartment. A pan of the camera reveals that it wasn't Charles who was shot, though — it was Sazz who took the bullet. The final shots of the season showed Sazz on the ground, her fingers coated in blood, trying to write something on the floor.
John confirmed that viewers aren't falsely reading into the moment. He said in the same The Hollywood Reporter interview: "That is the big bit of discussion, and we had a lot of discussion as to how long to hold that shot, and how long to have her finger moving, what letter starts this off and all that."
He also added that Sazz's infrequent cameos could hold more significance than initially let on: "We thought to keep it as oblique as possible for now, just to keep our options open for the next season, but it feels very in her character to send a message. She’s been trying to do it to Charles throughout the season."
As for culprits? Motives? It sounds like the showrunners are ID'ing those with personal connections to Charles. "There’s a lot of exploring to do down that road," John told the outlet. "If anything, it’s very helpful for our show, because a 10-episode mystery is a lot, you have to sort of really meter it out. So, the more personal you can make the victim to one of our trio, or the murderer to one of our trio, the better."
Thus, we're led to believe that Charles is in grave danger heading into season 4.
In an unprecedented twist, the next installment brings our beloved characters to the sunny city of Los Angeles, California. Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich revealed in a Deadline interview the Only Murders In the Building crew will kick off the new season with a trip to LA before returning to The Arconia in their search of Saz's killer.
"Well, I'm very excited to see Steve, Martin and Selena take a little break from the apartment building and come to Los Angeles," Craig told the outlet. "So in the same way that John Hoffman used the canvas of Broadway to tell what I think was one of the most unique seasons you've ever seen, the same unique Only Murders take will be applied to Los Angeles, which I'm really excited about."
Will there be Only Murders in the Building season 5?
Even more seasons aren't outside the realm of possibility, either. John spoke in-depth with The Hollywood Reporter amid the season 3 finale. When asked about how much longer the show could go on, he expressed that they'd continue until the wheels fall off.
"There are rare moments in your career that you can look at a job and think, 'I don’t foresee anything sort of topping this in certain ways,' and you’re very lucky if you have that because I love everyone involved on the show," he said. "There’s plenty of ways to play with this title, too, and how deep it goes. We’re on a path ... It’s easy to imagine going on and on with this group."
