Dylan Dreyer is celebrating a major milestone — but it might not be what fans expected it to be.
It all started on June 12, when the Today show news anchor added a photo from Oahu, Hawaii, on Instagram. The image showed the TV personality wearing a white flower lei and a pair of sunglasses as she posed for a selfie from the balcony of her hotel. Initially, folks thought Dylan was visiting the island state to celebrate her 50th birthday, thanks to the caption that accompanied the post.
"#50 was worth the wait!!!" she originally captioned it. "Hello Hawaii!!!!"
When followers saw the post, it led many to wish her the happiest of birthdays in the comments. But as the messages rolled in, Dylan (who is 41 years old) quickly edited the caption to clarify what the celebration was for. It turns out that Hawaii was the final piece she needed to complete visiting every single state in the United States.
"ANOTHER UPDATE!! Sorry I wasn’t more clear," she later wrote. "This is my 50th state … I’m not 50! But thanks anyway for the birthday wishes!!"
As more people noticed the slight mishap, they couldn't laugh at the confusion the Earth Odyssey host accidentally caused on Instagram.
"Never seen a caption confuse so many people 😂," one person wrote in the comments section. "Haha! You’re confusing everyone. Even I thought, wow if she’s 50, I’m not aging well … 😫🤣," another joked. "Lol!! I thought the same thing at first! Then realized Hawaii is 50th state not Dylan!!" a different follower added.
While everyone was busy being perplexed by the situation, Dylan actually alluded to Hawaii being her final destination in the U.S. earlier that day. The Misty the Cloud: Fun Is in the Air author uploaded a screenshot of her official "50 States" list, detailing only a snippet of the memories she experienced throughout the journey.
Needless to say, Dylan sure knows how to cause a funny ruckus!
