As American Idol starts getting deep into its latest season, fans are keeping up with what the judges are saying about the newest hopefuls. But when one teen stepped up to vie for a place in the competition, folks didn't necessarily agree with Katy Perry's feedback.

During a recent episode of the ABC singing show, viewers met 16-year-old snow cone maker Paige Anne. Looking to secure herself a golden ticket to Hollywood, she brought Katy, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie a tasty treat before singing P!nk's song "What About Us." Although Luke and Lionel had complimentary remarks for her rendition of the 2010s hit, Katy disclosed an unexpected remark about the aspiring artist's performance.

"In the beginning, it was just ice. Not a whole lot of flavor," she told Paige on the show. "It was a real like, 'She's not ready,' and then at the end, it was like, 'Oh, OK! She may be able to compete!' ... You need to be motivated and grow in light speed. People only get one moment sometimes. I don't think you're yet ready. It's a no for me for American Idol."

As it turns out, the "I Kissed a Girl" singer's words appeared to be another unpopular opinion amongst viewers, who felt a certain way about Paige's audition. When a clip of the moment surfaced on YouTube, it didn't take long for American Idol fans to fill the comments section with their thoughts.

"I can’t believe [Katy] said no. The imperfections were even beautiful 😭 that girl has soul!!!!" one person wrote. "I’m super shocked Katy said she isn’t ready! I know it’s not all about the voice, but her voice is one of the best of the competition! That is a winning voice!” another added. "I’d literally literally listen to her songs SHES SO GOOD KATY ARE YOU OKAY?!?!" someone else chimed in.

So, did Katy's words hold merit when it came to sending Paige to Hollywood? In the end, Luke and Lionel saw potential in her and let her through to the next round. Who knows, maybe Paige will take Katy's words to heart and change potentially change the judge's come her next performance.
