Amid the news that the Criminal Minds reboot will debut on Paramount+ on November 24, fans have been wondering where in the world is one of the original CBS actors, Matthew Gray Gubler. While Dr. Spencer Reid may not be coming back to the BAU, he's definitely causing fans to talk on social media.
In a recent video shared on Matthew's Instagram, he took his followers on a trip to celebrate all things spooky. After heading to the local costume store in his hometown of Las Vegas, Matthew gave folks a look at his unique dress-up taste — and his love for guessing people's astrological signs — while attempting to find the ultimate outfit he could wear this upcoming Halloween.
"Hey everybody. You might remember me — I'm Matthew Gray Gubler," he says in the clip. "I brought you the best Gublerween Halloween special you've ever seen last year, where I taught you how to make a ghost. This Halloween, we're going to find the best Halloween costume ever."
As Matthew isn't one to usually post on social media, Criminal Minds fans immediately got excited about the fact that he added a quirky new video to his feed. Naturally, they had a lot to say about his one-of-a-kind sense of humor in the comments section.
"Gube this was hilarious! We may not see a lot of you [at the mmoment but what we do see is bloody [marvelous]. Forever our Halloween king. Let there be no doubt 🎃🤴🏻🧡," one follower wrote on Instagram. "Matthew this is absolutely wonderful. You have made your fan family very, very happy. Happy Gublerween and Halloween, we love you so much. 💖🎃," another fan exclaimed. "BEST TIME OF THE YEAR! LOVE YOU MAN ❤️," a different follower added.
Folks may be aware of this, but Matthew's obsession with all things Halloween goes way back on his Instagram feed. He likes to annually mark the fall season with an unusual take on the year, with him leading up to what arguably seems to be his favorite holiday.
While the Dollface star may be vocal about his preference for Halloween, he's been silent about his involvement with the upcoming Criminal Minds: Evolution. Viewers have been alerted that his character Spencer is not expected to appear in the first set of episodes, but showrunner Erica Messer does have a plan for explaining his absence.
"It’s a little bit of a mystery what Reid and Simmons [Daniel Henney] are up to, but they’re certainly not forgotten," she told TVLine. “Dr. Reid’s and I believe Matt Simmons’ desks are still there, still have stuff on it ... Like, if any of you went back [to the office after the pandemic], you still have stuff on your desk that was there for two years. So we’re definitely playing that. But [Spencer and Matt] are not gone gone."
But if there are any thoughts about what Matthew will be up to during next month's release, he'll most likely be brainstorming another costume.
