The 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards may be over, but discussing inspiring fashion moments isn't. Among the Hollywood A-listers who had fans talking was actress Jean Smart, who won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for HBO Max's Hacks for the second year in a row.
The 70 year old wowed viewers when she stepped out for the major TV event in a show-stopping Christian Siriano gown. On the red carpet for the 2022 Emmys, the cream-colored long-sleeved dress stood out with its the off-shoulder design. The outfit also featured a cinched waistline and a bold tie-around sash.
Wanting to give the ensemble a chance to shine, Jean's accessories were kept simple. Choosing to forgo a necklace, the actress instead wore diamond drop earrings and a diamond ring to accent her look. To further play up the allure of the gown, she wore her short blonde hair in bouncy waves. Jean tied the entire look together with neutral eyeshadow and a rosy lip for her makeup.
Reacting to seeing Jean at the 2022 Emmys, Hacks fans wasted no time expressing their thoughts when fashion designer Christian shared a behind-the-scenes video.
"Jean Smart never looked lovelier. That dress, along with her hair and overall styling just looked incredible and classic. I love JS," one fan commented on Twitter. "Jean Smart looked divine … her head to toe look was chic, glamorous & sophisticated. The gown that you created for her was breathtaking. Jean Smart was one of the best dressed at the Emmys," wrote another follower. "This look was absolutely stunning! Jean Smart was old Hollywood glamour like no other 🥰," one more replied.
While this was the first time folks saw the actress stun in the gown on a red carpet, it turns out it had been in the works for a while. As she told TV personality Loni Love during E!'s pre-show arrivals, it was originally chosen for last year's ceremony.
"I'm wearing a beautiful gown made by Christian Siriano," Jean said on the show. "He actually made it for me last year, but I wore a different one instead. And then we saw it again. We went, 'This is fabulous! Whatever were you thinking?'"
Luckily, the beautiful design got to see another day while simultaneously becoming part of a memorable moment for Jean.
