Katherine Heigl is feeling the beginnings of empty nest syndrome in the midst of back-to-school season.

On August 26, the Firefly Lane star revealed that her three kids — Naleigh, Adelaide and Joshua Jr., — have returned to the classroom. In a series of Instagram photos, Katherine captured her daughters hugging and her son showing off his backpack while waiting for the bus.

"Well it’s that time of year again. Back to school for these two and off to kindergarten for my last and final baby," she captioned the pics. "I feel funny. Like maybe I might start crying. Or maybe I’ll just run around the house for the next seven hours intermittently yelling FREEDOM!!! We’ll see. 😏❤️."

Grey's Anatomy fans seemed to resonate with Katherine on the emotional parenting moment. When she shares the personal news with her followers, many shared their own feelings about the subject.

"All of them grow up sooo fast!! And how beautiful they are!! 😍," one fan wrote in her Instagram comments section. "Great pictures, both happy and sad at the same time. He’ll love school 💜," another follower commented. A different fan had some thoughts about how Katherine might react to her kids not being home in the middle of the day: "First you will cry and then you will run around the house yelling freedom! Then when you remember they're gone you will cry again..❤️❤️ it's the rules..I think?? 😂."

At least the 27 Dresses actress isn't alone in feeling emotional about her kids. In fact, she and singer-songwriter husband Josh Kelley were overwhelmed they decided to follow their son the entire way to school.

"Stinks is off to kindergarten," she captioned the sentimental moment on TikTok. "We’re barely holding it together over here. @joshbkelley."

So sweet!
