Throughout his two-decade career as a professional dancer, Dancing With the Stars judge Derek Hough has gotten hurt at least once while on camera. But he has also found himself in harm's way far from the dance floor and at the hands of the ones he loves the most.
In a July 26 video posted to Instagram, the former World of Dance star documented a bodily injury for his social media followers to see. In the clip, Derek holds a bloodied tissue to his right eyebrow, indicating where the incident occurred. Though getting hurt may be a normal occurrence in his profession, he later revealed his injury was caused by his two-year-old dog Luna.
"Show me the art. Now show me the artist," a message read in the Instagram Reel, in reference to a TikTok trend. "She's a Picasso," Derek captioned the snippet.
Reacting to the laceration, Dancing With the Stars fans quickly ran to comfort the judge in the comments section. But they also made sure to let him know who he shouldn't be blaming for the unfortunate accident.
"Sorry Derek you were injured, but at least you can get a laugh out of it. Your dog looks so innocent. 😂," one fan wrote. "@derekhough hope you’re ok Derek. It looks like it hurt," another replied. "Ouch!! ❤️ feel better she just love her daddy so much she got a little excited and she super sorry 🐶," a different person said.
Given how he's busy performing a residency in Las Vegas with fiancée Hayley Erbert, this must have happened during an unexpected time for him. But hopefully Derek will be good as new before season 31 of Dancing With the Stars airs this fall on Disney+. And if Luna decides to make a special appearance, we definitely wouldn't mind one bit.
