Whether or not Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak tunes in every weeknight to watch the game show with fellow fans, he’s in the loop about the different conversations sparked by his behavior.
On April 5, the 75-year-old TV personality took to his Twitter to share his thoughts on what folks had said about his prior conduct on Wheel of Fortune. Over the past few years, Pat and the show have been at the center of several online discussions about its rule book and the host’s unexpected behavior, like dramatically walking off the stage. As it turns out, he’s aware of what viewers have said about him but instead of trying to get the last word, he’s cracking a joke about himself.
“You know, it’s been over a week since I’ve stormed off the show, displayed erratic behavior, cheated someone out of their winnings, or insulted a player. I’m due,” he wrote on Twitter.
After his fans on Twitter realized it was just another example of Pat’s dry humor, many immediately tweeted right back.“Go for it!!!” one person wrote. “I know Pat! Why do you think I'm watching?!?” a different fan said.
What’s more, past Wheel of Fortune contestants chimed in, as well. “Thank you @patsajak! We had a great time on WOF tonight despite my nervous flubups. The entire WOF team, & @TheVannaWhite are a class act. And you sir - A TV Legend. Thank you and until then,” a follower commented.
Another revealed that the show goes to great lengths to advise players about the rules. “As a former contestant on WoF, I can personally attest to the many conditions and warnings that are painstakingly reviewed before the taping. Players are fully aware of the rules ahead of time,” another added.
So, does the host’s amusing behavior continue off camera? Speaking with his daughter, Maggie, who is the Wheel of Fortune social correspondent, Pat revealed that he has never bickered with his cohost, Vanna White. He credited the fact that their personalities blend well together.
“We actually haven’t [argued], and I’m surprised because I can be annoying,” he said on Instagram Stories. “In part it’s because we’re similar in terms of our nature. We’re fairly low key. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. We take the show seriously and our responsibilities but neither of us does that star turn stuff … It’s been wonderful all these years … We don’t see each other all the time, mainly when we’re taping but still, you would think in all those years we’d be fussing about something but nope.”
