The 2022 Oscars was eventful, to say the least. Apart from show-stopping red carpet fashion moments and historic wins on stage, there was a lot going on behind the scenes that fans might have missed while watching the 94th Academy Awards. For instance, there just so happened to be a mini reunion of The Office when former costars Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak attended the 2022 Vanity Fair Oscar Party together.
After hosts Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer and Regina Hall closed the show in their pajamas at the Dolby Theatre, the festivities continued at the after party. While there, Mindy stunned in a custom Dolce and Gabbana gown with a bejeweled bustier-style top featuring an off-the-shoulder cap detail. The design flowed down to her yellow skirt with a thigh-high slit. The Morning Show actress completed her look with a bejeweled rectangular clutch. B.J. looked dapper in a classic black-and-white suit and went for a more casual look sans tie or bowtie.
Mindy took a second to commemorate the special occasion with a series of Instagram photos giving fans a closer look at her glam outfit, makeup and jewelry. "I love the movies!" she captioned the snaps.
Once the longtime best friends arrived at the celebration, they posed together for an incredible candid picture in the portrait studio. Afterward, B.J. shared the photo on Instagram. His celebrity friends reached out in the comments section trying to express how breathtaking the pair looked. "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" wrote Chilling Adventures of Sabrina actress Kiernan Shipka. "Stunning 🔥," commented Fuller House star Candace Cameron Bure.
Unsurprisingly, both B.J. and Mindy's fans were just as excited to see them side-by-side. "Ugh I love you Kelly and Ryan," one person wrote, referencing their Office characters. "Name a more iconic duo…I’ll wait," another added. "Wow wow wow 🔥YES MINDY!" a different fan said.
This isn't the first time the close friends have accompanied each other to the annual party. Their first sighting was back in 2014, and before the coronavirus pandemic impacted Hollywood in 2020, B.J. and Mindy attended together in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Despite Office fans hoping the two would become a real-life couple again (they dated on and off for several years), they've made it clear that they're as close as family now.
