When Tamron Hall announced via Instagram in 2019 that she was expecting her first child, it wasn’t the only piece of news in her post. Up to that point, fans of the former Today show star were largely unaware that she had gotten married to a man named Steven Greener.
Since Tamron first publicized her relationship with Steven, the couple has welcomed their son Moses and celebrated all sorts of milestones as Tamron’s eponymous talk show continues to thrive, recently marking 1,000 episodes and securing its renewal on ABC for the fall of 2025. While Steven mostly remains a private figure, Tamron has occasionally opened up about their love story, and life with Moses, over the years.
Who is Tamron Hall's husband, Steven Greener?
Though Steven isn’t the household name that Tamron is, he has worked in the entertainment industry for over 32 years as a music executive and film producer. He currently serves as the Head of Music Talent at Primary Wave Entertainment, where according to the company’s website, he oversees clients including Cee Lo Green, Fantasia, Melissa Etheridge, Brandy and many others. Prior to joining Primary Wave, Steven worked for a company called Handprint Entertainment, which managed A-list names in music and comedy such as Bernie Mac, Mariah Carey, Usher, Chris Rock and Jennifer Lopez.
As far as when Steven first got romantically involved with Tamron, the first hints of their relationship can be traced back to an interview Tamron did with Steve Harvey shortly after her exit from the Today show in February 2017. Tamron informed Steve that she now had a boyfriend, though she refrained from naming him at the time. The two discussed how dating can be difficult when in the public eye, and Tamron told Steve, “You know, I feel it’s tougher for the guys, because if I break up with them, then they can go on and be forced to watch me on TV everyday,” meanwhile, “I don’t see them.”
Thankfully, Tamron and Steven’s relationship stood the test of time, and she was able to open up more about their origin story when she co-hosted Live With Kelly and Ryan in the summer of 2019. Tamron revealed that the two knew each other for about four years before becoming an item. But, for Tamron, "his game was not up to par" for her to know that he was actually flirting with her over the years. “He would run into me and he kept saying, ‘What are the odds?'” she told Ryan Seacrest. “I’m like, ‘Cause you’re stalking me, the odds are high.'”
Two years later, she ran into him again at a pool in Los Angeles. After the two started talking, Steven finally asked her about going out for pizza together (a Bronx native, he claimed to know the best spots) and joked, “Let’s get married.” She wasn't sure what to think at the time, but after giving him a shot, the two started dating and moved in together three weeks later.
Knowing her mother would not be happy about their living arrangement, Tamron tried to hide the fact that they lived together whenever her mom would visit. “My mother is a Southern old-school, so I kept saying he was ‘visiting,'” she said. “And then, when my mom first visited us, I moved all of his clothing out and he had to stay at a friend’s house a few blocks up. Then he lost the key to the house. It’s a crazy story. But yeah, basically we hid it. It was like a comedy special and my mother said later, she always knew. She said, ‘I always knew he lived there.'”
Does Tamron Hall have kids?
Steven and Tamron share one son, named Moses. They welcomed Moses into the world on April 25, 2019, and not long after, they both spoke to People to share updates about their growing family. Steven gushed about his wife, telling the outlet, "Tamron is one of the most authentic, loving, honest, caring people I've ever known.” He added that, "My favorite part of marriage and fatherhood so far is realizing every day I am exactly where I was always meant to be — with my family. I am home."
When asked about the secret to their marriage, Tamron told Good Housekeeping that she and Steven made a promise to each other to "never turn on each other" and "always be on each other's side." She explained, "For him, he wants my show to make it, but he wants our marriage to work and he knows part of that is maintaining this foundation and him being comfortable with who he is and not pushed into someone he isn't." Tamron also said that Steven likens their dynamic to Dolly Parton and Carl Dean's, where "the husband" is out of the spotlight.
Now that Moses is almost six years old, Tamron has learned to balance her son's comfort level in the spotlight, just as she has with her husband’s. Speaking with US Weekly earlier this year, Tamron said that in many ways Moses has grown up on the set of the Tamron Hall show. She shared that he loves the stage and “looking at the lights," but “walking into a room of 200 adults who are strangers, it’s overwhelming.” Tamron doesn’t pressure her son in this regard and said, “We have worked to give him the words and empower him to have that, ‘I’m OK. I'm not ready.’ Everything is not for everybody.”
While Tamron continues to respect the privacy of Steven and Moses, she can’t resist the occasional shoutout for her family members, like a sweet Valentine’s post for her husband, a congratulatory post in 2021 when he made Billboard’s list of power players in R&B and Hip-Hop, as well as a series of Christmas photos later that year. In Moses’s case, she took to Instagram to show her surprise birthday present to him when he turned three — a Bernedoodle puppy named Exodus.
Most recently, Moses has been making appearances on Tamron's social media as she promotes her new children’s book, Harlem Honey: The Adventures of a Curious Kid, which she says he inspired. The book officially hit shelves in March, and she posted an adorable photo of Moses looking at the finished copies in a bookstore. In her caption, she shares that Moses plays two very important roles in the family, calling him "My manager and muse."
