If you were thinking of dropping by your local Rite Aid for snacks, quick supplies or your latest prescription, you'll have to do it soon. That's because Rite Aid is set to close all its locations within the next few months.

The company announced on May 5, 2025, that it is once again filing for bankruptcy, for the second time in two years. However, instead of minimizing its fleet with certain store closures like last year, the household pharmacy name is shutting its doors at all 1,240 locations.

But, there could be a silver lining. "While we have continued to face financial challenges, intensified by the rapidly evolving retail and healthcare landscapes in which we operate, we are encouraged by meaningful interest from a number of potential national and regional strategic acquirers," says Chief Executive Officer of Rite Aid, Matt Schroeder.

The brand is in talks with several prospective buyers, so while the Rite Aid nearest you may be closing, it's possible that the doors will stay open, just under a different name.

What will happen to Rite Aid prescriptions?

Before Rite Aid officially closes in a few months, the brand says, "customers can continue to access pharmacy services and products in stores and online, including prescriptions and immunizations."

Additionally, the company is also "working to facilitate the smooth transfer of customer prescriptions to other pharmacies."

What will happen to my Rite Aid points?

Starting May 6, 2025, Rite Aid will no longer issue reward points for purchases, and all pre-existing points and BonusCash will expire. The brand also mentions that gift cards, returns and exchanges will no longer be available starting June 5, 2025. So make sure to cash in on your gift cards beforehand.
