• LEGO's 2025 selection of advent calendars are available to pre-order.

  • Sets will be shipped out on September 1.

In my house, we're serious about our advent calendars. We start shopping for them during back-to-school season so that we're ready the minute December 1 strikes, and it's not unusual for us to have multiple advent calendars going at the same time. Overkill? Maybe. But considering we get 24 treats for the price of one Labubu, spreading joy throughout the month doesn't seem quite so indulgent. (I hope?)

LEGO is one of the first places we look before decide on our season's picks. They're always cooking up new and fun sets, and this year is no exception. LEGO already has six advent calendars available now for pre-order. The prices range from $35 to $45, and they'll be shipped out on September 1.

The most exciting one? The LEGO Minecraft Advent Calendar. To my knowledge, they've never had a Minecraft advent calendar before, and with the success of the Minecraft movie this year, I bet kids will be clamoring for it.

First off, the builds are cute: They're a perfect mash-up of Minecraft and holiday, with kids being able to assemble Steve in a snowman sweater, Alex in a Creeper sweater and a Santa Villager with a furnace (which is almost like chimney, if you think about it). They'll find Drowned, Zombies and Golem, plus axes, tridents and so many other fun accessories from the game. (Just don't expect any — don't make me say it — Chicken Jockeys.)

Another new theme for LEGO this year is the Frozen advent calendar. (They've done Disney before, but not specifically Frozen to my recollection.) This makes sense, because Frozen and holidays seem like a natural match — they both have those wintry vibes. In addition to the mini-builds that every LEGO advent calendar has, this one comes with five minifigures — Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven — who are done in the Friends minifigure style (which is less blocky than the traditional LEGO minifigs). The fun thing is the set doubles as a board game, with the box serving as the board. Kids have to build the spinner.

In addition to those new sets, LEGO has three advent calendars in themes that fans have come to know and love: Star Wars, with mini-builds of droids and a droid factory; Harry Potter, which comes with a whopping eight minifigures in different Hogwarts garb; Friends, which builds out a holiday sleepover scene and City, which creates a holiday party (love the people in silly reindeer and polar bear costumes). Gotta love a festive red and green R2 unit!

The one theme they don't have this year is a Marvel advent calendar. Maybe next year Franklin Storm will have a little minifig to call his own. (Can't The Thing say, "It's construction time?" Nah, doesn't have the same ring to it.)
