An electric spin scrubber lets you say goodbye to the hassle of scrubbing away stubborn soap scum in the shower or greasy residue on the stove. These handy devices make cleaning easier with their rotating brush heads that effectively break down grime — no elbow grease required. Plus, with various attachments, they’re versatile enough to tackle everything from bathtubs and tiles to stubborn debris on the grill and beyond.

At the Good Housekeeping Institute Home Care and Cleaning Lab, we put eight electric spin scrubbers to the test. We evaluated how well they removed a dried layer of a clay mask that we applied and let harden on our ceramic tile test panel and from the corners of our stainless steel Lab sinks. We also noted if there was splashing, if the bristles splayed out, the amount of pressure required and battery run time. For ease of use, we considered comfort, maneuverability, weight, the number of attachments included and their versatility. These are the best ones we tested.

Pros

  • Comes with a telescoping handle
  • Long battery run time
  • Excellent at removing grime

Cons

  • Heavy

At first glance, this may not look like a typical spin scrubber with its modern Dyson-like design. However, it's not just sleek looking — in our tests it was one of the top performers for removing soil. We also found it easy to maneuver and comfortable to hold. The Hoto can be used as a small handheld scrubber or with a telescoping extension pole that adjusts from 37 to 51 inches, and combined with the fact it has six attachment options, it's extremely versatile.

When we tested the battery it lasted nearly 2 hours and 20 minutes, making it one of the longest run times out of our roundup of spin scrubbers. Our only minor complaint: It's one of the heavier scrubbers we tested.

Klever Electric Spin Scrubber

Pros

  • Comes with soft and hard bristle brushes
  • Lightweight
  • Budget-friendly

Cons

  • Does not have an option for an extension pole

This electric spin scrubber is a great value, effectively removing soil in our tests and it's priced under $40, making it a good choice for someone who doesn't want to pay more for accessories they won't use. It comes with four brush attachment types: flat, straight, corner and umbrella brushes. Each type includes two brushes, one with hard bristles and one with soft bristles.

Our pros appreciated the ergonomic rubber handle, which is comfortable to hold. It's one of the lighter electric spin scrubbers among those we tested, weighing just under 380 grams, so it won't weigh you down while cleaning. Although it lacks an extension pole for reaching higher places, it boasts a runtime of just over 90 minutes according to our tests, enabling you to complete longer cleaning tasks.

Best Extendable

Casabella Power Spin Scrubber

Power Spin Scrubber

Pros

  • Pivoting head
  • Excels at dirt removal
  • Long extension pole

Cons

  • Harder to use as a handheld device

The Casabella Power Spin Scrubber features a long handle that minimizes the need to bend over while scrubbing. It also comes with an extendable pole to help reach taller areas, such as the shower walls, extending up to 47.5 inches, which is one of the longest options we tested. Another standout feature is the pivoting head that allows you to adjust to the best angle for scrubbing, making it easier to clean.

In our tests, it excelled at removing dirt, only requiring a small amount of pressure to clean. We also found it comfortable to hold and easy to maneuver. However, its extended handle makes it heavier and harder to use as a handheld scrubber, so it’s best suited for someone who primarily needs a longer electric spin scrubber.

Best Handheld

Ruby Horsepower Waterproof Power Scrubber

On Sale
Waterproof Power Scrubber

Pros

  • Great at removing grime
  • Lightweight
  • Doesn't splash

Cons

  • Does not have an extension pole

The Ruby Horsepower electric spin scrubber lives up to its name as a true workhorse when it comes to scrubbing, which impressed us for such a small gadget. We also appreciate the thinner handle, which makes it comfortable to hold — especially for smaller hands — and rubber material helps with grip. The thinner handle combined with its light weight of just under one pound make it an excellent choice for a handheld electric spin scrubber.

We found that it did a great job removing grime with moderate pressure. One thing to note: there is a learning curve for how much pressure to apply when cleaning. During testing, we found that it needed a slightly heavier hand when it comes to pressure, but applying too much pressure caused the bristles to splay out. We were impressed it didn't splash liquid around while testing.

One unique attachment that comes with this spin scrubber is a steel wool brush for heavy-duty jobs, which is not commonly found in many models.

Best for Small Crevices

Rubbermaid Reveal Power Scrubber

Reveal Power Scrubber

Pros

  • Exceptional at cleaning grout
  • Compact and maneuverable
  • Comes with an assortment of attachments

Cons

  • Splashes

This electric scrubber is best suited for small areas such as tile grout and other small crevices. It performed well in tight spaces, thanks to its compact design which is slightly larger than an electric toothbrush. Not surprisingly, it's the lightest among the electric spin scrubbers we tested, weighing just shy of half a pound. It’s powered by AA batteries instead of a rechargeable battery, so you won’t have to worry about pausing to recharge the battery in the middle of cleaning; simply replace the batteries, and you're ready to start cleaning again.

In our tests, it splashed more than other models, so you'll need to take care when cleaning such as moving items out of the way or wear clothing that you don't mind getting a bit messy. However, the splashing isn't so excessive that it's a dealbreaker. It comes with an assortment of brushes and pads for various tasks including scrubbing dishes, cleaning grime around sink faucets, removing soap scum from shower heads and tackling other intricate spaces.

How we test electric spin scrubbers

double line break

When the Good Housekeeping Institute Home Care and Cleaning Lab tests spin scrubbers, we evaluate ease of use and performance. For ease of use, we assess how comfortable the electric spin scrubbers feel during use and if they are easy to grip. We also examine the controls and ease of maneuvering each device while cleaning, particularly in tighter areas like corners.

We note the versatility of each spin scrubber and check the quantity and types of attachments for various cleaning tasks. We also weigh each model to determine if it's heavy and could become tiring to hold for extended periods.

To assess performance, we spread a measured amount of clay mask on our test tiles and let it dry completely. Afterward, we lightly wet the scrubber head and clean for 30 seconds, at which point we evaluate how much clay the scrubber has removed.

We also apply clay in the corner of a sink, let it fully dry and then clean for 10 seconds before evaluating how much soil is removed. In addtion, we rate the amount of pressure needed for effective cleaning when cleaning both the tile and corners, and if the bristles splay out.

We test how much the electric spin scrubber splashes by applying a thin layer of clay mask on the bottom of a dish basin, spraying a set amount of cleaning fluid on the clay and scrubbing for 10 seconds. We then assess the amount of clay bits that have been flung to the sides of the basin.

Finally, we measure the battery life by fully charging the scrubber, turning it on, and letting it run until it stops.

What to look for when shopping for the best electric spin scrubbers

double line break

✔️ Attachments: Consider the cleaning tasks at hand and the attachments that come with the electric spin scrubber. Scrub brushes can have hard or soft bristles, each suited for different jobs. Soft bristles are better for items that may easily scratch such as a glass stovetop, while hard bristles tackle stubborn grime. Scrub brushes also come in various shapes, such as flat, dome-shaped or pointed. Beyond scrub brushes, electric spin scrubbers may come with other attachments like scouring pads, scrubbing pads, sponge pads or pads with fabric such as microfiber.

✔️ Extension pole: If cleaning tall areas like shower walls or lower areas like floors is on your to-do list, look for an electric scrubber that comes with an extension pole. This piece extends the handle's length, so you won’t need to drag out a ladder to reach higher areas or bend over while scrubbing the floor, saving you from potential back pain.

✔️ Run time: Electric spin scrubbers have varying battery life, so check how long it runs. A longer run time allows you to clean without the interruption of the battery dying in the middle of a task.
