Whether you like your martinis with gin or vodka, dirty, with an olive or lemon twist, a good martini glass can enhance your drinking experience. There’s the classic v-shaped martini glass, but a coupe or Nick and Nora glass are also great options for serving martinis. A bonus of these glasses is they can also be used to serve other drinks.

Our experts in the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances and Innovation Lab tested 12 martini glasses, assessing performance, ease of use and overall design. We also recruited consumer testers to give feedback and spoke with two cocktail professionals, Ysabel Rossi, Grey Goose Brand Ambassador, and Alexis Belton, Beverage Director at Metropolis, a restaurant in New York City by Marcus Samuelsson.

Below, read our reviews of the best martini glasses you can buy, plus find more information on how we tested the glasses and what to consider when shopping at the bottom of this guide. Best Overall Martini Glass

Schott Zwiesel Universal Classico Martini Glasses

Pros

  • Lead-free, according to the manufacturer
  • Dishwasher-safe
  • Classic martini glass shape

Cons

  • Too large for those that like a small martini

The Universal Classico martini glass was our top pick. Testers found this comfortable to hold and liked drinking out of it. They loved the traditional martini glass design, commenting that it looks classic and chic. Rossi also loves a classic martini glass because the "design allows you to enjoy the aroma of your martini while providing a sophisticated presentation."

This is a large capacity glass, holding almost nine ounces of liquid which is great for those who like larger drinks, but those who like smaller martinis may find this is not suitable. Due to the large capacity, a standard size martini didn't spill while we walked around with it.

According to the brand, this is made with Tritan Crystal, which is their patented crystal that's more durable and has added brilliance. Schott Zweisel states it's also lead-free. Plus, it's dishwasher-safe so you don't have to worry about hand washing it after you're done.

Pros

  • No stem to break
  • Variety of uses such as dessert glasses or appetizers
  • Feels sturdy

Cons

  • Some may not find the glass comfortable to hold

The martini glass from Libbey proved to be an excellent value. You can grab a set of 12 glasses for about $40. Our pros appreciate the stemless design, so there's no stem to accidentally break, and the glass feels more solid because of the large base rather than a delicate stem. Plus, you can also use these glasses for more than martinis such as other cocktails, creative appetizers or desserts.

Multiple testers also commented the martini glass felt sturdy and they enjoyed drinking out of the glass. They were mixed on whether the glass was comfortable to hold, with some liking the stemless design, while others found they didn't prefer that their hand wraps around the glass while holding it. It's dishwasher-safe, making clean up a breeze.

Best Vintage Martini Glass

Williams-Sonoma Fiore Coupe Glasses

Fiore Coupe Glasses

Pros

  • Large capacity
  • Can also use for other drinks
  • Vintage hand etched design

Cons

  • Some may find this too large
  • Hand wash

The Fiore Coupe glass caught our eye with its stunning etched crystal martini glass that's hand cut in a pattern reminiscent of flower leaves. The design gives this martini glass a vintage feel while still looking fresh. The brand states the crystal is lead-free. You won't be stuck with too many glasses that you don't need since you can buy these as a set of two or singles.

It's the largest capacity martini glass on this list, holding 12 ounces so you won't need to refill your espresso martini or other drinks as often. On the downside, testers found this glass felt heavy and some wished it were more delicate. Unfortunately, it's hand wash so you won't be able to put it in the dishwasher.

Pros

  • Comfortable to hold
  • Testers liked the design
  • Did not spill

Cons

  • Hand wash
  • Pricier than others

Waterford Crystal has been around since 1783, so it's no surprise this was one of our top scoring martini glasses. It had top scores for being comfortable to hold and drink from. The glass held a standard martini without spilling while walking around with it.

Not to mention testers also gave it high marks for the beautiful design. While this was one of the highest scoring crystal martini glasses in our tests, it comes at a higher price point than others and needs to be hand washed. You can purchase these as a pair.

Best Coupe Martini Glass

CB2 Eve Coupe Cocktail Glass

Pros

  • Didn't spill
  • Dishwasher-safe
  • Chic coupe design

Cons

  • Did not feel as sturdy to hold as others

We love coupe glasses for their versatility of being able to serve martinis or other drinks like champagne and Manhattans. In our tests, we found that the martini didn't spill when walking around with it in the glass, but testers commented you had to take more care handling it — because of the large opening, the drink sloshed around in the glass easier and made it feel slightly less sturdy.

However, testers also stated that they love this particular coupe design and that it looks "very chic." When you're done with your cocktail, cleaning up is easy since these glasses are dishwasher-safe. Choose from purchasing individual glasses, a set of four or eight martini glasses.

Most Unique Martini Glass

Estelle Colored Martini Glass

Colored Martini Glass

Pros

  • Fun colors
  • Comfortable to hold
  • Did not spill

Cons

  • Hand wash only

It's hard to miss these martini glasses from Estelle, with their eye-catching mix of pastel colors. In our tests, this was a top pick for its aesthetics with testers gushing how much they loved these martini glasses. We also found the drink did not spill out of the glass and it was comfortable to hold.

At 7.25 inches, this is one of the tallest glasses on this list, so if you're prone to knocking things over it's something to keep in mind. Unfortunately, these martini glasses are hand wash only. Best Nick and Nora Martini Glass

Riedel Drink Specific Glassware Nick & Nora Large

Drink Specific Glassware Nick & Nora Large

Pros

  • Comfortable to hold
  • Can be used for various drinks
  • Dishwasher-safe

Cons

  • Some may not prefer drinking from a Nick and Nora glass

Nick and Nora glasses look like a combination of a coupe glass with its rounded, slightly open-mouthed shape and martini glass with its sloped sides. Compared to other martini glasses in our roundup, this one has a daintier feel with a smaller capacity. Belton prefers a martini glass with a smaller volume so it's going to be the perfect temperature and says, "the temperature can definitely factor into flavor and enjoyability as well." The shape also makes these glasses versatile so they can serve martinis as well as other stirred drinks.

In our tests, our martini did not splash out of the glass while carrying it around. Our pros found it was easier to hold and it felt more balanced since the top opening is not as wide. Testers commented it was comfortable to hold, but were mixed on whether they liked to drink from it, with some saying it felt a little awkward and others saying it felt like drinking a cocktail from a high-end bar. This martini glass is made with crystal and dishwasher-safe so no hand washing is required.

How we test the best martini glasses

double line break

In our Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances and Innovation Lab, our experts thoroughly researched martini glasses on the market and then narrowed them down based on our categorical expertise.

When we test martini glasses our pros look at ease of use factors, assessing if it's comfortable to hold and enjoyable to drink from. We make martinis and have a panel of consumer testers rate their experience holding and drinking from each martini glass. We note if the martini glass is dishwasher-safe or hand wash.

To evaluate performance, we make a martini to pour into each glass and have testers walk around with the glass to note any spilling or sloshing. We also note specs like capacity, material and height of the martini glass. Lastly, we have consumers evaluate the aesthetics of the martini glass.

What to look for when shopping for the best martini glasses

double line break

✔️ Capacity and size: When it comes to martini glass size, there's not strictly a wrong or right size. Some may prefer a larger glass to add more garnishes or be able to enjoy a larger drink. Others may want a smaller glass so their drink is not sitting too long and getting warm. Rossi prefers a smaller size martini glass for an ice cold martini and has been seeing a newer trend: "A lot of bars have started to serve mini martinis, not because they want guests to have less of their delicious martinis, but so their cocktails retain their icy cold temperatures." Also, keep in mind the size of the mouth opening. Glasses with larger mouths may spill more easily or slosh around more.

✔️ Type: There's the classic v-shaped martini glass but a coupe or Nick and Nora glass are also excellent for martinis. Those who strictly drink martinis or want a traditional martini may want to stick to a classic design. If you want to serve other drinks in your glasses besides just martinis then a coupe or Nick and Nora is a good option.

✔️ Dishwasher-safe: Many of the martini glasses we evaluated were dishwasher-safe, making them easy to clean. However, some were hand wash only. When looking for a martini glass you'll want to consider if you want to hand wash the glass or if you would rather be able to throw it in the dishwasher.

✔️ Lead-free crystal: When shopping for martini glasses, you may come across some manufacturers touting that their crystal is lead-free. According to some manufacturers, the benefits of lead-free crystal versus crystal with lead are that it's more durable, not as vulnerable to heat, lighter weight and resistant to dulling in the dishwasher. In addition, there's concern about potential lead exposure from leaching in leaded crystal, which is something to be aware of.

What is the best size martini glass?

double line break

There's no right or wrong size for a martini glass but if you like yours ice cold, both of the beverage experts we spoke with, Rossi and Belton, recommended a smaller glass so it won't sit too long and warm up. However, larger glasses are less prone to liquid sloshing out and are good for someone who wants to make a larger drink.
