What to look for in a hanging planter
- The size of your plant: "You want to repot plants into containers that are only 1 to 2 inches larger in diameter from the plant's original pot," says Lalicata, who suggests a standard indoor potting mix.
- Drainage: "You don't always need a hanging planter with drainage," says Lalicata. If your planter doesn't have drainage, you should keep your plant in a nursery pot. Use a turkey baster to suck up excess water from the saucer after watering or incorporate a plastic drip tray underneath the planter.
- Weight: Make sure your planter isn't too heavy to hang. Consider where you'll be hanging your planter: hung from the ceiling, a wall or an outdoor space like a balcony or porch.
