A great mattress can make a world of difference when it comes to improving your quality of sleep, but you don't need to spend thousands of dollars on a high-end bed. There are plenty of affordable mattresses on the market that perform just as well as (and sometimes better than) luxury models, so you can sleep peacefully at night knowing you can find a quality mattress for less than $500.
In the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab, we evaluate all types of mattresses to determine the best mattresses on the market. Along with researching and analyzing mattresses in the Lab, we share them with our consumer testers who try them for several weeks before providing us with feedback, including their thoughts on overall comfort, sleep temperature, firmness, setup and more. We also survey our GH+ panelists for information about the beds they personally own. We combined our expertise, testing and survey data to choose our picks for the best affordable mattresses.
We've surveyed more than 10,000 mattress owners and have tested hundreds of models, and Linenspa's 8-Inch Hybrid Mattress stands out for its affordable price tag and comfortable feel. The most budget-friendly of any of our picks, the hybrid bed may cost under $250 but has earned more than 95,000 five-star reviews on Amazon and, according to real users, is a dream to sleep on from night one.
