As a fiber scientist in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab, I've tested bedding for well over a decade, averaging upwards of 250 bedding products each year. In the Lab, my team and I evaluate everything from fabric strength and moisture management to wrinkle-, shrinkage- and pilling-resistance. We also work with hundreds of real consumer testers to weigh in on everything from ease of use to comfort and effect on sleep quality.

The best sheets

Pros
Strong and comfortable fabric
Labels for easy bed making
Flexible 365-day return policy
Cons
May be too short for tall mattresses
Material: 100% cotton sateen | Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King | Depth: 16 in. | Also available as a duvet cover
I've personally slept on these Brooklinen sheets for nearly a decade, and they're consistently my top recommendation because they offer a great balance of quality and value. They're made with soft and smooth cotton sateen fabric. I use this set at home on my own bed (with the matching duvet cover) and love how the designs are neutral but not boring.
Brooklinen was one of the first brands to include labels for the "short" and "long" sides on the fitted sheet for easy bed-making. Another perk: Brooklinen offers any-reason returns for up to a year (minus a $9.95 return fee), so there's low risk to try them out.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: It earned high scores for its fabric strength and held up well to repeated laundering. The material didn't pill easily either.
✔️ Consumer testing: We've had dozens of testers sleep on these sheets, and they gave the set high scores for appearance, comfort, softness and being easy to put on the bed. One tester shared, "I like that the sheets feel very soft to the touch, yet feel that they are made with a quality material that has not pilled, or shown major signs of wear and tear."
One thing to note is that the fitted sheet isn't super deep, so it may be a bit snug on taller mattresses or beds with mattress toppers.

Pros
Low price for cotton sheets
Resisted pilling in our durability tests
Soft and substantial, according to testers
Cons
May not feel as luxurious as pricier sets
Material: 100% cotton sateen | Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King, Split King | Depth: 16 in. | Also available as a duvet cover set.
Most 100% cotton sheet sets cost well over $100, but this one has an unbeatable price and performed exceptionally well in our tests. Besides being loved by sleep testers, it also held up to Lab evaluations with perfect scores for pill resistance. Plus, it's available in a wide range of colors.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: The fabric proved pill-resistant in our tests, with no signs of wear after 1,000 cycles on our abrasion tester. The fabric also washed well in warm water with minimal shrinkage, though it had average scores for its tensile strength.
✔️ Consumer testing: At-home users found it to have a good weight — i.e., it wasn't thin or flimsy. One told us, "The sheets are very comfortable and crisp (without being overly crisp to the point of being stiff)." Another added, "These were very well-made and comfortable sheets and seemed substantial."

Pros
Crisp yet soft texture
Breathable and cool
Strong, durable fabric
Cons
Not entirely wrinkle-free
Material: 100% pima cotton | Sizes: Twin, Full, Queen, King, California King | Depth: 15 in. | Also available as a duvet cover.
Percale sheets are known for their crisp and airy texture. They're popular amongst hot sleepers for their breathability, though some may find the fabric a bit rough. This set from L.L.Bean uses premium pima cotton for extra softness and was the top performer in our tests. They have a crisp yet smooth texture and come in a range of bright colors, solid neutrals and eye-catching prints.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: The fabric proved strong and durable with minimal pilling and shrinkage after extensive Lab testing. Percale is known for wrinkling, and this set is no exception, but the fabric was smoother than other percale sets we tested.
✔️ Consumer testing: Our testers liked the balance between crisp and smooth. They highlighted its cool and airy feel, with one comparing the set to "quality hotel sheets." Several also mentioned how substantial and sturdy the fabric felt when compared to other percale sets in a side-by-side comparison.
Pros
Temperature-regulation for hot sleepers
Soft and smooth fabric
Shrink-resistant in laundering tests
Cons
Fabric wasn't as strong as other sheet materials
Material: 60% Tencel lyocell, 40% Outlast viscose | Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King | Depth: 15 in. | Also available as a duvet cover.
Ideal for warmer weather or sweaty sleepers, this set uses a unique fabric that stores and releases body heat to help keep you at a comfortable temperature throughout the night. It's also moisture-wicking, which helps keep you dry if you experience night sweats. We like that the brand offers an any-reason return period of 60 days so you can make sure it's a good fit.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: It washed well in Lab tests without shrinkage, though the material wasn't as strong as other fabrics in our durability tests.
✔️ Consumer testing: Our sleep testers unanimously said they stayed at a comfortable temperature all night long when using these sheets. Besides its cool feel, they loved how soft and smooth the fabric felt against their skin. Several praised the extra elastic on the corners: "I typically struggle when putting on fitted sheets because they pop off the corner of my mattress but the straps helped hold the corners in place," said one.
Pros
Inexpensive
Soft, buttery feel
Wrinkle-resistant
Cons
Less breathable than cotton
Material: 100% polyester microfiber | Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King, Split King | Depth: 16 in. or 21 in. (deep pocket) | Also available as a duvet cover set.
This polyester microfiber set feels smoother and more durable than cotton sheets and come at a lower price. Our Lab tested it years ago because of its popularity (it's a best-seller on Amazon with hundreds of thousands of five-star ratings), and it's continued to impress us ever since with its performance in Lab and consumer tests.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: The sheets were more wrinkle-resistant than most cotton fabrics, and they barely shrunk when we washed them. Beyond that, the fabric held up well in pilling tests.
✔️ Consumer testing: It also wowed our consumer testers with its soft, buttery feel; some even thought it was too soft. One at-home tester shared, "I like the softness and smoothness of these sheets. My body felt like it was gliding over them as I moved." Just take note: Synthetic bedding fabric may not feel as breathable as cotton, even when lightweight.
The best pillows

Pros
High ratings from testers
Adjustable fill is supportive yet cushioning
Machine washable
Cons
Outer cover pills easily
Fill: Adjustable blend of memory foam and polyester down alternative | Outer cover: Polyester/rayon blend | Firmness: Medium-firm | Sizes: Queen, King
With a standout performance in both Textiles Lab and at-home tests, Coop Home Goods' pillow comes with extra stuffing that you can add or remove to create your own personalized height. The fill is a blend of memory foam pieces and microfiber clusters that offers good support while still feeling fluffy.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: The entire pillow is machine washable, which usually isn't the case with foam, and washed well in our evaluations. The foam also bounced back to shape in our Lab's pressure tests, so you can expect it to keep its shape even after your head has been lying on it all night. Just note that the outer cover (which is a blend of rayon and polyester) pills over time.
✔️ Consumer testing: Our testers said was it comfortable and supportive, and many even said that it improved their overall sleep quality. One described the cradling comfort by saying, "It wraps around my head, and I sink into it." Another told us, "When I go to bed, I look forward to sleeping on it as I know I will have a restful night's sleep."

Pros
Great value for a set of two
Soft and fluffy feel
Luxe cotton outer cover
Cons
Side sleepers said they wished it felt more supportive
Fill: Polyester down alternative | Outer cover: Cotton | Firmness: Soft | Sizes: Queen, King
This set of best-selling down alternative pillows lives up to the hype: It outperformed styles three times the price in our tests. It uses a fluffy polyester fill with a 100% cotton outer cover for a softer and more luxurious feel. Best of all, it's machine-washable for easy care.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: The pillow excelled across the board: It maintained its shape without flattening out in pressure tests and had a perfect fit in a Standard-size pillowcase. It also showed minimal shrinkage after multiple washes, though we did notice some loose threads and puckering.
✔️ Consumer testing: "The down alternative filling is so fluffy and cushiony, yet still supportive," shared one tester who rotates between her side and back. Others appreciated that the fill stayed even without clumping or feeling lumpy. Still, while some testers praised its support, others, including tall side sleepers, found it too flat to offer sufficient neck support, especially at its medium height.

Pros
Outperformed other down pillows
Plush, comfy and supportive
Machine washable
Cons
A few wished it were a bit firmer
Fill: Down | Outer cover: Cotton | Firmness: Soft, Medium, Firm | Sizes: Standard, King
If you prefer real down pillows, you'll love this fluffy option from Parachute. It was a sleep-tester favorite and outperformed dozens of other down models. Another bonus? You can pick between three different densities for varying levels of support, depending on your sleep position.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: It stood up to laundering without showing signs of wear. As a bonus, the lofty shape fit perfectly inside a standard pillowcase. We also appreciated how the cotton sateen cover prevented the fill from poking through.
✔️ Consumer testing: Testers praised its softness and comfort, with some describing it as "absolutely dreamy" and feeling like a "marshmallow." Others were impressed by its loft. One said, "Many other down pillows I have tried in the past would be totally flat by now, and this one is as fluffy as the day I started using it." Still, some wished it were a tad firmer, so if you're a side sleeper who needs a tall, firm pillow, we recommend opting for the side-sleeper version.
Pros
Supportive yet plush
Noticeably cool
Three height options
Cons
Pricey for a single pillow
Fill: Latex and breathable elastic grid | Outer cover: Nylon mesh | Firmness: Medium | Sizes: Standard, King (with Low, Medium and Tall)
Purple's signature elastic grid material has a one-of-a-kind feel, striking a balance between soft and responsive. When combined with a Talalay latex core, the support is unmatched. The resulting pillow is pricey but comes in three heights to fit a range of body types and sleep positions.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: It bounced back to shape instantly in our pressure tests, even after weights were left on top for eight hours. It also washed well: The cover, which includes the brand's signature grid material, looked good as new with minimal shrinkage after multiple washes. Just remember: The cover must be laid flat to dry as it is not dryer-safe.
✔️ Consumer testing: At-home testers praised its support and breathability. They unanimously agreed that it stayed cool all night long and appreciated how well it retained its shape over time. One tester described the texture as "very soft and supportive." Others, including some with chronic pain, called it their new go-to pillow: "I don't think there is such a thing as a magic pillow for back pain, but this one was supportive while also being really soft," said one.
The best comforters and duvet inserts

Pros
Fluffy and cloud-like feel
Soft and quiet outer fabric
Recycled down alternative fill
Cons
Only available in one warmth level
Fill material: Down alternative (polyester) | Outer cover: Tencel lyocell | Sizes: Twin/Twin XL, Full/Queen and King/California King
Another tester (and personal!) favorite, Buffy's comforter stands out for being exceptionally soft and fluffy. It's also fully machine washable and it has a Global Recycling Standard (GRS) certification, thanks to its fill of recycled polyester made from water bottles. While it only comes in one warmth level, we've found it's great for year-round use.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: We were impressed with the construction: The lofty fill uses a web of fibers instead of individual clusters to prevent clumping, while the wavy stitching doesn't compress the fill as much as your standard box stitch. The outer cover is made of Tencel lyocell, a material that's smooth, lightweight and quiet, so no crinkly sounds when you move under the cover.
✔️ Consumer testing: Our reviewers consistently describe it as feeling like they're sleeping in a cloud. "It was very comfortable to sleep under and gave the bed a nice, cozy feel," said one tester. "It also looks plump and luxurious without being overly heavy." Users also gave it perfect scores for remaining quiet throughout the night and for the fill not shedding or poking through at all.

The Company Store Legends Hotel Premium Alberta Down Comforter

Pros
RDS-certified down
No shifting or shedding in consumer tests
Three warmth levels
Cons
Expensive
Fill material: Down | Outer cover: Cotton sateen | Sizes: Twin, Full, Queen and King
If you prefer splurging on an indulgent comforter, this one uses high-quality materials, including a 600 fill power down that's certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) and a luxurious cotton sateen outer cover. The construction is top notch, and you can pick between three warmth levels.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: It aced our quality inspections in the Lab, with no flaws or defects to report. We were impressed with the gorgeous corded edges and baffle-box stitching, which uses an extra panel of fabric between each section for added loft, and found the outer fabric to be luxe and quiet.
✔️ Consumer testing: Even though it's pricey, it has held up well over the course of years in the homes of our testers. Testers also noted how the fill doesn't shift around or shed, and said it felt warm and comfortable to sleep under. One called it “lightweight yet still warm” and said the “fluffy” texture felt “like a hug.” Another said, “It feels wonderful to sleep under, and, frankly I have difficulty climbing out from under it in the morning because I am completely comfortable.”
Pros
Buttery soft cover
Lightweight and cozy design
Tons of colors and sizes
Cons
Synthetic fill and cover may be too warm for hot sleepers
Fill: Polyester | Outer cover: Polyester and spandex | Construction: Box stitch | Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, Queen Plus, Oversized Queen, King, Oversized King, California King, Alaskan King
An incredible deal at a fraction of the cost of others, this comforter comes from Bedsure, a brand known for its quality yet affordable bedding. It's available in both neutrals and bright colors but it still has built-in loops at the corners, so you can use it alone or with a duvet cover. The down-alternative polyester fill proved lightweight and fluffy in our tests, and we like the range of sizes (including oversize options).
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: While some comforters can be noisy, this one stayed completely silent in our tests, thanks to the buttery soft outer polyester material. We were also impressed by how lofty the fill felt, especially compared to similar styles at the low price point.
✔️ Consumer testing: Testers were impressed with how cozy and warm it felt despite its lightweight nature. “It was very comfortable to sleep with,” reported one user. “The comforter did not bunch up at all.” Another said it was “just the right thickness” and called it “my new favorite comforter!” Still, if you're a hot sleeper, you may want to avoid this synthetic material as it's prone to trap heat.
Pros
Cool against skin and moisture-wicking
Lightweight
Reversible for two color options
Cons
Not intended to use with a duvet cover
Cover material: Nylon/spandex and polyester | Fill material: Down alternative polyester | Sizes: Twin/Twin XL, Full/Queen and King/California King
With a cool-to-the-touch fabric that you have to feel to believe, Rest's cooling comforter is the perfect solution for hot sleepers. The cover is made with an ultra-thin nylon that helps achieve its smoothness, and the fill is a blend of a fluffy polyester and Tencel lyocell. It's designed to be used without a duvet cover, but it comes in six different colors and is reversible so you have options for your bed. Plus, it's super smooth and more lightweight than traditional comforters.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: Besides feeling cool, it also proved to be moisture-wicking in our Lab's tests, meaning it can help keep sweaty sleepers dry. Beyond that, it washed well without signs of wear.
✔️ Consumer testing: Our testers — all self-proclaimed hot sleepers — gave it perfect scores for keeping them at a comfortable body temperature throughout the night. "As a hot sleeper, I really appreciate this comforter's cooling effects, especially during the summer," one explained. "I'm using the cooling comforter with a memory foam mattress topper and pillow and I would definitely be overheating without it." Another pointed out that it gave the secure feeling of sleeping with a cover without sacrificing temperature.

The best bedding accessories

Pros
Wide array of colors to choose from
Gorgeous textured herringbone pattern
Lightweight cotton fill
Cons
Some online reviewers said the material snagged
Material: 100% cotton cover and fill | Sizes: Twin, Full/Queen, King
A simple quilt can make all the difference when tying together your bedroom, and with this one, you can have your pick of color schemes. The quilt is hand-stitched in a herringbone pattern, which creates a beautiful rippled texture. We also love the wide slew of colors, including both neutral and eye-catching options, with a crowd-pleasing cotton feel and comfortable weight. Plus, you can even pick up a set of matching shams.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: Our textile analysts were impressed with the quality stitching and construction and found the weight substantial without feeling too heavy. Our home team also liked the classic look and color options, so you can add a splash of color or stick to neutrals.
✔️ Consumer testing: The versatile design was a hit with our testers. One said, "This quilt is so soft. I love the look and feel of it." Another appreciated how it draped beautifully over the edges of her Queen-size bed and commended its comfort and breathability. A few shared that they planned to purchase more for the remaining beds in their homes. While our testers didn't notice any snagging, some online reviewers don't recommend it if you have pets with long claws that could get caught in the stitching.
Pros
Lightweight
Lofty texture and plush feel
Available in a range of colors and sizes
Cons
May feel too thin for some users
Materials: Polyester | Colors: 30 | Sizes: Throw, Throw XL, Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King
A cozy throw blanket is a must-have in the winter, and we love the look and feel of this one from Bedsure: It's plush and luxe without feeling too thick or heavy. It also comes in a wide variety of gorgeous hues and practical sizes, so you can find one that compliments your color scheme.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: It earned a Good Housekeeping Seal and top praise from our analysts for how well it washed. Our senior home director also loved the appearance: "The vertical detailing adds a special touch to this super soft design," she said. "[It's] an easy way to introduce more texture into a space and make it feel cozier."
✔️ Consumer testing: Our testers highlighted its warm yet lightweight texture. One commented, "The wide ribbed design looks stunning, and the plush sherpa feels premium." Another added, "The fabric feels extremely soft and cozy and looks gorgeous on my bed." Several reported that they plan to buy it in additional colors.
Note: Our testers appreciated the lightweight nature, but some online reviewers found it a bit too thin for their liking.
Pros
High comfort ratings
Moisture-wicking fabric
Held up to abrasion tests
Cons
Slight shrinkage after laundering
Fiber content: 100% mulberry silk | Fabric weight: 25 momme | Closure type: Envelope | Sizes: Standard, Queen, King | Care instructions: Brand recommends dry cleaning or handwashing, but it is washing machine-safe on a dry cycle in a mesh bag, then lay flat to dry
Silk pillowcases feel soft and luxurious to lie on, plus the smooth surface helps prevent skin creases and bedhead. This one from Fishers Finery is the best we've tried; it's even earned the Good Housekeeping Seal. Silk quality is determined by fabric weight, and 25 momme is among the most substantial options on the market. And though it's certainly not cheap, it outperformed much pricier styles.
HOW IT PERFORMED IN OUR TESTS:
✔️ In-Lab evaluations: It was durable in Lab evaluations and didn't show signs of wear in our abrasion tests. It was also moisture-wicking, meaning it can help you feel cool and dry as you sleep, though it did shrink a bit in the wash.
✔️ Consumer testing: All of our sleep testers loved how comfortable and refreshing it felt, noting that they woke up without skin creases. One added, "The silky case was better for my hair than my cotton pillowcase."
