Like coffee, shampoo and smartphones, laundry detergent is a necessary part of modern life. But before you toss your next load into the washer, make sure to check your shelf for this brand of laundry detergent, that's being recalled by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) due to a potential bacterial contamination.

Here's everything you need to know about the recall.

What product has been recalled?

The CPSC has issued a fast track recall on Woolite Delicates Detergent sold on Amazon.com in January 2025. The revocation specifically applies to the 50 fluid-ounce size purchased from the online retailer. A fast track recall is a voluntary action taken by a business, through the supervision of the CPSC, to stop potentially contaminated products from further sale and distribution. The elective decision places the customer's safety at the forefront.

  • Woolite Delicates Detergent, 50 oz
    • Recall Number: 25-189
    • Lot Codes: S24364, S24365 and S24366
    • SKU: 62338-72724

Why is it being recalled?

Approximately 16,200 units of laundry detergent are being recalled over a potential bacteria risk. The species of bacteria is said to negatively affect those with a weakened immune system, as they "face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment." Those with a healthy immune system are said to not be at risk. The particular bacteria can enter the body through the eyes or a cut in the skin.

While no injuries or incidents have been reported as of March 20, 2025, the company is issuing the recall voluntarily out of caution.

What should I do if I have the recalled product?

To determine if you have one of the affected products, the CPSC urges customers to check the SKU and lot code on their 50 oz bottle. The SKU is located vertically next to the barcode, and the lot code can be found on the back of the bottle near the pink cap.

If the numbers match those mentioned above, stop using the detergent immediately, and contact Reckitt, Woolite's parent company, via this email address: ConsumerCare_USA@reckitt.com. In the email, attach an image of your recalled detergent with the word "RECALLED" written on the back of the bottle in black marker with the SKU, barcode and lot code visible.

Once your refund is received, dispose of the detergent by tightly twisting the cap closed and placing it in the trash. Do not empty or recycle the container.
