There’s nothing that feels more luxurious than drifting off to sleep on a smooth, silk pillowcase, but this material has more to offer than its premium look and feel. In fact, sleeping on a silk pillowcase has benefits that justify its popularity (and the high price tag). The material has a natural ability to help prevent creases and wrinkles on your skin and can reduce damage to your hair as you toss and turn.
With so many silk pillowcases on the market, it can be tricky to know which ones are made of high-quality materials that are worth the splurge. That’s why the fiber scientists and product analysts at the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab have been hands-on with silk pillowcases and accessories for decades, testing everything from silk sheets and silk pajamas to silk scrunchies for your hair.
Year after year our pros compare the best picks on the market, and the Fishers Finery silk pillowcase, a Good Housekeeping Seal Holder and Best Bedding Awards Winner, has constantly earned a spot among our top performers in Lab tests as well as with consumer testers. Below you’ll find everything you need to know about this buzzy pillowcase, what we liked about it and whether it deserves a spot on your bed. Spoiler alert: It does!
Fabric quality and construction
If you haven’t slept on high-quality silk, it feels exactly how you would expect. The material is soft, smooth and has a sleek feel that our consumer testers love. Fishers Finery’s silk pillowcase is no exception and is made of 100% mulberry silk. It’s the finest silk you can find and one worth the investment, especially since you’ll be sleeping on your pillow every night. Because mulberry silk has longer, more uniform fibers than other types of silk, you can count on it to be smoother and more durable.
The Fishers Finery pillowcase features a 25-momme weight. Much like thread count, momme corresponds to the density of the weave, so the higher the momme, the more silk per square foot. Momme is an excellent indicator of silk’s quality; in general, higher momme silk is thicker and heavier — and therefore more luxurious. Our pros recommend shopping for a silk pillowcase with at least 22 momme if you’re hoping for the best quality. Pillowcases within this momme weight range are largely favored by our testers.
Though we think the 25-momme silk pillowcase offers the best combination of performance and price, Fishers Finery also offers the more affordable yet thinner 19-momme silk fabric or a pricier, more substantial 30-momme pillowcase that will feel even more lavish.
Pillowcase colors, sizes and fit
You’ll find 13 color options available online, whether you like neutrals such as white and taupe or you prefer a splash of color in your bedroom — you can choose among greens, lavender, pretty pastels and more. Though the selection of patterns and prints is limited (you’ll only find two striped prints), the solid shades are rich and vibrant.
When it comes to sizing, Fishers Finery silk pillowcases are available in Standard, Queen and King sizes, so you can ensure the best fit for your pillows at home. Because silk tends to be slippery, choosing the right size is important so you don’t find the pillowcase slipping off in the middle of the night.
To keep the pillow inside, Fishers Finery pillowcases feature an envelope closure where the fabric tucks into itself. While zippers do a slightly better job at securing pillows, we found that the envelope closure was relatively easy to use and didn’t result in too much shifting.
Our review of the Fishers Finery silk pillowcase
Sleeping on the Fishers Finery silk pillowcase is a delight. It feels smooth and comfortable throughout the night and, compared to pillowcases of other fabrics, there is noticeably less friction against hair and skin. “The silky case was better for my hair than my cotton percale pillowcase,” one tester shared. Some of our testers even claim that the pillow maintained a cool temperature for longer, and the majority raved about its comfort.
The pillowcase not only impressed us in our sleep, but it also held up in Lab evaluations and showed no signs of wear and tear when we ran it through countless abrasion tests. The fabric was among the strongest in our tests and had excellent moisture wicking (sweaty sleepers, rejoice!). Though we did experience some slight shrinkage and creases when we washed it, the pillow retained its smooth feel and color over time.
We especially appreciate that the silk pillowcase is machine washable and includes a mesh bag to use when laundering to help prevent any damage. According to the brand, you can even dry it on low-delicate heat for 10 minutes – just make sure not to overdo it or you could end up hurting the fabric.

How we test silk pillowcases
The Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab regularly tests bedding essentials like silk pillowcases to find the best ones for your bedroom. In our Lab evaluations, we use specialized equipment to determine a silk fabric’s strength, abrasion resistance, moisture-wicking capabilities, washability and more. We also send pillowcases home with consumer testers to get real-world feedback on their experience to find the smoothest, most durable and most comfortable pillowcases to sleep on. Over the years, we've tested more than 30 silk and satin pillowcases and have reviewed more than 5,000 data points.
