Although some may argue Halloween is more for the kids than the adults, we believe that you're never too old to have some spooktacular fun on October 31. The trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving and Halloween arts and crafts might be enough for the kids, but for us adults, there's nothing better than showing up to the neighborhood Halloween party in a killer costume — especially one that's inspired by your favorite TV show.
For all our ranch-loving, horse-riding drama-hungry fans out there, when it comes to some Beth Dutton-approved DIY Yellowstone costumes, we've got you covered. Whether you want to channel the big man himself John Dutton (Kevin Costner ), bad-to-the-bone Beth (Kelly Reilly), the rugged-looking Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) or one of the smaller characters that have graced the screen over the past five seasons like ranch hand Teeter (Jennifer Landon), activist Summer (Piper Perabo) or baby of the family Tate (Brecken Merrill), this list is full of easy DIY ideas that'll make you looked like you stepped off the set of Paramount hit show.
Of course, you can always play it simple with a Dutton Ranch hat and t-shirt for a quick last-minute costume, but if you're hoping to take first prize in the costume contest you might want to level up a bit with some of these unique Halloween looks. And lucky for those on a budget, some of these cowboy-inspired outfits can be created from old shirts, jeans or shoes you might already have in your closet. Go as one of these characters individually or create your own couples or trio costumes. Heck, if you have enough people dress as the entire Dutton family. The one thing you can leave at home? The well-known high-flaring Dutton tempers and family drama that seems to follow them wherever they go.
John Dutton Costume
If there's one thing John Dutton (Kevin Costner) is, it's loyal — to both his land and his family. Wear his everyday ranching attire — a cowboy hat, boots, and layers upon layers of jackets and zip-ups — and practice Kevin's signature gritty-gravelly voice to resemble the family's patriarch.
Mayor John Dutton Costume
There's something about John Dutton in a suit that just makes us swoon — and we're definitely not the only ones. Although some may argue that he wasn't necessarily qualified to take political office in the most recent season, we can't argue with the fact that he knows how to wear a suit.
Beth Dutton Costume
Everyone at the party is the trailer park and you're the tornado — Beth's words, not ours. An easy look to recreate, this is one of Beth's "softer" looks that stands in stark contrast to her intense deposition. You can also always put your own spin on this sweater and dress combo but throwing together any old dress and boots you may have tucked away in your closet — no need to invest in these lookalikes if you don't want to!
Rip Wheeler Costume
Rip is as rugged a cowboy as they come and his dark cowboy getup just emphasizes that even more. Bonus points if you have the dark beard and sideburns to match! For an even more iconic costume, make sure you have a Beth dressed and ready by your side.
Monica Dutton Costume
Monica (Kelsey Asbille)'s style has transformed a lot throughout the last five seasons but her emphasis and pride of her Native American roots has always stayed constant. In this look she uses bright colors, patterns and jewelry to pay tribute to her heritage. Go by yourself, pair up with your ride-or-die BFF (your version of Beth perhaps) or grab your Kayce for a cute couple's costume.
Kayce Dutton Costume
Ex-marine Kayce prefers life in the bunkhouse to the big house, meaning he's more often found in ranch gear than the fancy suit jacket he wears as the Montana Livestock Commissioner. As the husband of Monica and the father of Tate, Kayce is very protective of his family and will do whatever it takes to protect them.
Jamie Dutton Costume
Jamie (Wes Bentley) might not be the first (or second or third) Yellowstone character you'd want to dress up as, but hey, someone has to dress up as the highly disliked third Dutton sibling if you're attempting a group costume. With all the plotting he's done against his family and the ranch, he also makes the perfect villain if you were looking to be a bit bad this Halloween.
Jimmy Hurdstram Costume
Over the past few seasons, we've seen Jimmy (Jefferson White) fight his way through difficult situations and work hard to become a trusted worker at the Dutton Ranch. Nothing gets in his way — not even getting flung off a horse and almost becoming paralyzed. He's got tenacity and grit and always seems to have a big smile on his face. Talk about inspiring!
Lloyd Costume
A former rodeo competitor and currently the oldest ranch hand at the Dutton ranch, Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) is tough, experienced and very loyal to the Dutton family. He acts as a father figure to the young Jimmy and is considered one of if not the most trustworthy worker in the bunkhouse. Of course, with this costume you've got the traditional hat and big metal belt buckle, but you absolutely need Lloyd's trademark gray facial hair to complete the look.
Tate Dutton Costume
Fans have watched the young Tate grow tremendously over the years from a shy young boy to a mature teenager. He can of course be worn as an individual costume, but if you need a duo or trio costume you can always dress up as him alongside someone dressed as his dad Kayce, his grandfather John or both.
Summer Higgins Costume
As soon as fans were introduced to Summer in the beginning of season 5, they knew that she definitely did not grow up like the Duttons. The environmental activist, who first meets John after she's arrested at a protest outside of the Montana Livestock Association offices, immediately butts heads with Beth upon meeting, and their relationship gets only slightly friendlier throughout the season. Where there's sass there's Summer.
Teeter Costume
Teeter a little rough around the edges, but that's all part of her being the only female ranch hand. Pair your favorite bootcut jeans with a white tank top and work shirt over top of it to get her daily work look, but absolutely don't forget her trademark pale pink hair to finish it off. You can buy a blonde wig and use the pink chalk to dye that or go to town on your own hair if that's what you'd prefer.
Colby Costume
As the other half of one of our favorite secondary character romances (the other being Teeter), Colby (Denim Richards) became more familiar to fans when the two were viciously attacked some of John's enemies while skinny-dipping together back in season 3 and almost left for dead. This continued to ignite John's decades-old few with these enemies, who were then attacked in retribution by the other Dutton ranch hands.
Ryan Costume
Gather your friends and make everyone dress as one of the ranchers on the show. There are tons of characters to choose from, but Ryan (Ian Bohen) is one of our top picks.
