Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is one of the holiest days on the Jewish calendar, and it can bring families together with joy and sweetness.

For Jewish families and families who are looking to learn about the holiday, which begins in the seventh month — Tishrei, finding cool things to help teach our kids about the holiday can be tricky. We are a small minority, after all. There are more products that teach your kids about Rosh Hashanah available than ever, thanks to huge retailers like Amazon and individual creators that are more able to share their goods. There are books to read, wooden Rosh Hashanah kits for kids with challah and kiddush cups, and even foldable fortune teller printables that encourage your children to broaden their knowledge and love of the New Year.

This list includes great products that will not only help you teach your children about Rosh Hashanah but are generally just really cool items related to the holiday and Judaica in general. I'm positively tickled over the options, and I am sure you will be too.

I'm Sorry, Grover: A Rosh Hashanah Tale

I'm Sorry, Grover: A Rosh Hashanah Tale

Grover, the cute monster from Sesame Street, shows the other be-furred creatures of the block all about Rosh Hashanah. You can probably guess who's a huge fan of the honey and apples. They're not cookies, but they're crunchy and sweet.

Big Dot of Happiness Rosh Hashanah

Big Dot of Happiness Rosh Hashanah

This bingo set has all of the fun items of Rosh Hashanah in place of letters and numbers, and it’s adorable. However, if I were making it just for adults, I’d probably include things like “Trying to remember what year it is” and “running out of wine.” But atonement, apples, and tashlich make more sense for kids.

8-Piece Plastic Shofar Horn

8-Piece Plastic Shofar Horn

This is definitely one of those toys you have to get your kids for Rosh Hashanah, but you will also instantly regret getting for your kids. The shofar is such an important ritual, and playing with plastic shofars is a rite of passage for kids. It just so happens to fall in the same category as whistles and kazoos on the level of annoyingness, but hey, kids love it.

The Big Awesome Rosh Hashanah Coloring and Activity Book

The Big Awesome Rosh Hashanah Coloring and Activity Book

One of the hardest things to do is keep your child quiet during high holiday services. This might just work. Bring a 24 pack of crayons, and hand them this, and you may get a full 30 minutes of service before they raid your stash of Altoids.

While they're coloring, they're still absorbing the service and are learning about the holiday, but they're also contentedly coloring — quietly — at least for a while.
