With Easter a few weeks away, you're probably planning a day to dye eggs with the family. If you're lucky, the weather will be warm enough to bring the activity outside and avoid colored stains on your kitchen counter or dining table. But before you stress over the chaos, our editors swear by this mess-free Easter hack.

Every year, our crafting pros spend hours brainstorming and experimenting fun Easter crafts, and they recently stumbled upon a genius idea. Turns out, the secret for mess-free Easter egg dyeing is already in your utensil drawer — it's a standard whisk.

Instead of using the flimsy little egg holders or a spoon, secure your egg inside a whisk to easily dip and remove fragile eggs from dye.

How to dye eggs using a whisk:

  1. Pour boiling water into a heatproof jar or bowl. Add several drops of food coloring or egg dye and mix well.
  2. Gently open the spokes of a whisk and push the egg inside. The whisk acts like a cage and keeps the egg in place.
  3. Lower the whisk into the dye and let it sit for several minutes. When you have reached the desired color, simply lift the whisk out and remove the egg. Repeat with your favorite colors.

Pro tip: Soak your hard boiled eggs in vinegar for a few minutes before dyeing for richer and more vibrant color.
