Eid al-Adha is the most significant holiday on the Islamic calendar. In fact, the three-day holiday is also called the "Big Eid," which reflects its importance to Muslims. The dates of Eid al-Adha changes each year on the Gregorian calendar. On the lunar Islamic calendar, it generally falls 70 days after Eid al-Fitr, which is a significant Islamic holiday marking the end of Ramadan. This year, Eid al-Adha begins on June 6, 2025 and ends on June 9, 2025.

Eid al-Adha celebrates the completion of Hajj, which is an annual pilgrimage to Mecca and the neighboring holy grounds. Hajj is the fifth and final pillar of Islam; the other four are Shahada (faith), Salah (prayer), Zakat (almsgiving) and Sawm (fasting). Muslims are called to perform these acts throughout their lifetime as a form of worship. Practicing Muslims aim to complete Hajj at least once in their lifetime and believe that completing the Hajj with sincerity removes sins and gives a person a fresh start.

In addition to making the pilgrimage, Eid al-Adha is also celebrated through the symbolism of sacrificing a livestock animal like a sheep, cow, or goat. The meat of the sacrificed animal is divided up, with one-third going to your house, one-third being given as a gift to family and friends, and one-third going to the poor. In North America, Eid al-Adha is often celebrated with a BBQ feast at home.

These Eid al-Adha wishes and greetings can be shared with family, friends, coworkers, and anyone else in your life who is celebrating Eid al-Adha.
