Ingredients

"Special Sauce"

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup chopped cornichons
  • 2 tsp. yellow mustard
  • 2 tsp. prepared horseradish
  • 2 tsp. grated onion

Glazed Onions

  • 1 large onion
  • Oil
  • 1/4 cup steak sauce

Herbed Bacon

  • 8 slices bacon
  • 2 Tbsp. chives, snipped
  • 2 Tbsp. flat-leaf parsley, chopped
  • 1 lemon zest

Marinated Peppers

  • 2 peppers, quartered
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • Kosher salt
  • Black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. sherry vinegar
  • 1 tsp. maple syrup
  • 1 clove garlic, smashed

Directions

  • "Special Sauce

    1. Step 1In medium bowl, stir mayonnaise, ketchup, chopped cornichons, yellow mustard, prepared horseradish, and grated onion until well-mixed. Use immediately or refrigerate up to overnight. Makes about scant 1 cup.
  • Glazed Onions

    1. Step 1Heat grill to medium-high. Cut onion into rings. Brush with oil and grill 4 minutes per side. Continue grilling, basting with  steak sauce (we used A.1.) until tender and slightly charred, 3 to 4 minutes more.
  • Herbed Bacon

    1. Step 1Cook bacon in large skillet on medium, turning occasionally, until crisp and brown, 10 to 12 minutes. Transfer to paper-towel-lined plate and let cool, then break into pieces. In bowl, toss bacon with  snipped chives and chopped flat-leaf parsley and zest of 1 lemon. Makes about 1 cup.
  • Marinated Peppers

    1. Step 1Heat grill to medium-high. Toss peppers with 1 tablespoon oil and 1/4 teaspoon each salt and black pepper and grill, turning occasionally, until tender and charred in spots, 6 to 8 minutes.
    2. Step 2 Meanwhile, in same bowl, whisk together vinegar, syrup, remaining tablespoon oil and 1/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper; add garlic.
    3. Step 3 Cut peppers crosswise into pieces, add to bowl and let sit, tossing occasionally, at least 15 minutes.
