Chocolate Malt Ice Cream
This ultrarich ice cream is so worth making from scratch.

Malted milk powder and chopped malted milk balls lend a double whammy of nostalgic flavor to each creamy, crunchy bite of this delightful homemade ice cream.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups
whole milk
- 3/4 cup
sugar
- 3/4 cup
malted milk powder
- 1/2 cup
unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp.
kosher salt
- 2 cups
heavy cream
- 1
5-oz. container malted milk balls (about 1 heaping c.), roughly chopped
Directions
- Step 1Prepare ice cream maker per manufacturer directions.
- Step 2In large bowl, whisk together milk, sugar, malted milk powder, cocoa powder, and salt until sugar dissolves. Whisk in heavy cream. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour, up to overnight.
- Step 3When ready to churn, add ice cream mixture to ice cream maker and churn per manufacturer directions until consistency of soft-serve, 22 to 25 minutes, slowly adding malted milk balls to ice cream maker during last 3 minutes of churning.
- Step 4For a harder consistency, transfer ice cream to airtight container and freeze at least 4 hours. Remove from freezer about 15 minutes before serving.
