Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups
sugar
- 1/3 cup
light corn syrup
- 1/2 tsp.
black food coloring
Nonstick cooking spray
- 4
candy apple sticks or sturdy twigs
- 4
Granny Smith apples
- 1/2 cup
cup shredded unsweetened coconut
Directions
- Step 1In medium saucepan fitted with candy thermometer, combine sugar, corn syrup and food coloring with 1/2 cup water. Bring to a boil on medium, stirring occasionally to dissolve sugar. Then, without stirring, boil mixture until it reaches 300°F to 310°F (hard-crack stage).
- Step 2Meanwhile, line baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly coat parchment with cooking spray. Insert 1 stick into each apple. Place coconut in shallow bowl.
- Step 3Once mixture has reached hard-crack stage, remove from heat and let bubbles settle, 10 to 15 seconds. Working quickly with 1 apple at a time, carefully dip in sugar mixture, rotating to coat evenly, then dip bottom in coconut. Transfer to prepared baking sheet and let harden before serving, at least 20 minutes.
