Black Margaritas with Torched Limes

A teaspoon of activated charcoal takes this large-format margarita to inky depths. Caramelized lime slices complete the spooky effect.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups
tequila blanco
- 1 cup
triple sec
- 1 cup
fresh lime juice, plus 1 lime, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp.
activated charcoal
Simple syrup, to taste (optional)
- 2 tsp.
sugar
- 1/2 tsp.
kosher salt
Directions
- Step 1In large glass pitcher, stir together tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and charcoal. Taste and add simple syrup if desired. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Step 2Place lime slices on rimmed baking sheet in single layer. Sprinkle tops with sugar and salt. Using culinary torch, slowly wave flame over tops until sugar melts and begins to caramelize. Let cool completely, then cut slit into each lime.
- Step 3To serve, stir margarita well and pour into ice-filled glasses. Garnish rims with torched limes.
