Best-Ever Agua Fresca
Learn how to make agua fresca and you’ll be sippin’ cool all summer!

Summertime makes it even more important to stay hydrated, but sipping on plain ol’ H2O can be a bit of a snooze. Refresh yourself with an invigorating agua fresca, the thirst-quenching Mexican drink made from a combo of fruit (you can use almost any type) blended with lime juice, a sweetener and water and served over ice. You can even spike it for a colorful summer cocktail or leave out the booze for a family-friendly 4th of July drink. No matter the occasion, if you know how to make agua fresca you’ll have an easy, tasty way to cool down when temps rise.
For the best results, blend fruits that are naturally sweet with minimal or small seeds (check out our best blenders to make this task a total breeze!). Some of our favorite fruits for agua fresca include:

•Mango
•Watermelon
•Cantaloupe
•Pineapple
•Honeydew
If you have any leftovers, freeze into ice cube trays for a flavorful addition to sparkling wine or water.
Ingredients
- 1 lb.
fresh fruit, hulled, rind, seeds and pits discarded (try strawberries, mango, watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, honeydew)
1 to 4 cups water
2 to 4 Tbsp sugar
2 to 4 Tbsp fresh lime juice
Directions
- Step 1In a blender, puree fruit with 1 cup water and 2 tablespoons each sugar and lime juice until completely smooth.
- Step 2Pour mixture through a strainer set over a large measuring cup or bowl. Use a spoon to help mix so it continues to strain, pressing gently on pulpy solids to get all of the fruit juice out.
- Step 3Transfer mixture to a pitcher and add 2 cups remaining water, skimming and discarding any foam that rises to top. Add more water if the mixture seems thick and adjust with additional sugar and lime juice as desired. Serve over ice.
Transform It: Pour strained undiluted juice mixture into ice cube trays to fill halfway and place in the freezer for 2 hours or overnight. Once frozen, fill remaining space in ice trays with a different juice and freeze for another 2 hours until frozen.
