Barbecue sauce is the secret ingredient that gives these nachos a little extra spice. No one will really know how easy it was to season these party snacks.

Ingredients
- 1/4
small red onion, thinly sliced
- 2 Tbsp.
fresh lime juice
Kosher salt
- 1 Tbsp.
olive oil
- 1
large yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2
cloves garlic, pressed
- 1 lb.
ground beef
- 1 cup
barbecue sauce
- 1/2 cup
canned tomato sauce
- 6 oz.
tortilla chips (about 7 cups)
- 8 oz.
Monterey Jack cheese, coarsely grated (about 2 cups)

scallions, thinly sliced
- 1
ripe avocado, diced
Directions
- Step 1Heat oven to 450°F. In small bowl, combine red onion, lime juice, and pinch salt and let stand.
- Step 2Heat oil in large skillet on medium. Add yellow onion and 1/4 teaspoon salt and cook, covered, stirring occasionally, until tender, 6 to 8 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook 1 minute.
- Step 3Add beef and cook, breaking up into small pieces, 5 minutes. Stir in barbecue sauce and tomato sauce and simmer until slightly thickened, 4 to 5 minutes.
- Step 4On rimmed baking sheet, toss chips and half of cheese. Top with beef mixture and sprinkle remaining cheese on top. Bake until cheese has melted, 3 to 4 minutes.
- Step 5Top nachos with scallions, avocado, and pickled red onion.
