We're busy people: It's hard enough to go to work, get the kids to school, and still find time to do laundry and get dinner on the table. While some people turn to meal kit delivery services, you could save even more time and money by trying an online grocery delivery service to get fresh groceries delivered to your doorstep. The Good Housekeeping Institute selected our best picks based off our Test Kitchen's favorites. These are the best grocery delivery services to use in 2020.

1

Walmart Grocery

CHECK PRICE

You may have heard of Walmart Grocery before, but the company just launched a brand-new membership option called Delivery Unlimited. When you purchase it, you'll avoid the delivery fee on all of your orders for a full year.

You can get all kinds of produce and pre-packaged foods through Walmart's grocery delivery service, from frozen meals to bananas. If you live near a Walmart store, there's also the option to pick up your order in person.

2

AmazonFresh

CHECK PRICE

In order to take advantage of AmazonFresh, you need to be an existing Amazon Prime member. For an extra fee each month (after a 30-day free trial), you'll get access to tons of fresh produce, packaged foods, and more from the Amazon interface you know and love. Keep in mind that Amazon Prime customers in select cities might prefer Prime Now, a delivery service with no additional monthly fee.

3

Hungryroot

CHECK PRICE

Hungryroot is like a crossover between a meal subscription and a grocery delivery service, but what makes it different is that it only offers health-conscious (and often plant-based) options. You can mix and match all of the ingredients since they're staples (like grains and zoodles, for example), but the flavorful dressings and sauces allow you to switch up the taste.

Delivery is available in all states except Alaska and Hawaii. This calorie-conscious grocery delivery service is a favorite of Jaclyn London, MS, RD, CDN, nutrition director at the Good Housekeeping Institute.

4

FreshDirect

CHECK PRICE

Even though FreshDirect primarily delivers to addresses on the East Coast, people love it because of the high-quality produce and meat selections. (Plus, our Test Kitchen has groceries delivered from FreshDirect each week!) You usually need to order a day in advance, but customers in New York City can use Foodkick (also from the same company) for same-day grocery delivery service.

Instacart

CHECK PRICE

Instacart is a grocery delivery service where personal shoppers select your items from the store and then deliver them to your door. Depending on your location, you can get same-day delivery (sometimes in as little as an hour!) from a variety of stores in your area like Fairway, Aldi, Foodtown, and more. You can shop straight from the app (available on iOS and Android) or directly from the website if you prefer your computer's bigger screen.

6

Brandless

CHECK PRICE

Brandless might not be your one-stop shop when it comes to grocery shopping (you can't buy fresh produce or meat), but the company still offers a bunch of pantry items, snacks, and household products without the name brands you're used to seeing.

Most items are just $3, so you can safely try new things (pineapple jalapeño salsa, anyone?) without breaking the bank. Keep in mind that if you're constantly purchasing certain pantry staples like pasta or rice, it might be cheaper to just buy in bulk instead!

Shipt

CHECK PRICE

Similar to Instacart, Shipt is a grocery delivery service that lets you shop from different stores depending on where you live — including Target, CVS, and even Petco. You can get your groceries delivered as quickly as one hour after ordering, and you can place an order whenever the store is open (even if it's open 24/7!). If something isn't available or an order needs to be adjusted, you can easily communicate with your shopper by text.

8

Peapod

CHECK PRICE

If you usually do your food shopping at Stop & Shop, then you'll love Peapod — it's owned by the same company and it's one of the original grocery delivery services!

Pro tip: If you schedule your shipments in advance, you have the option of getting your delivery on a Value Day so you can get a lower delivery fee. Plus, frequent Peapod customers can get personalized recommendations on what items to buy with its Order Genius tool.

Boxed

CHECK PRICE

There's no better way to get ready for back-to-school season than by stocking up on your kids' favorite snacks and other pantry essentials — and Boxed delivers bulk groceries and more straight to your door. If you're looking to buy your milk, eggs, fruit, and veggies in bulk too, then you can schedule a delivery with Boxed Express — just note that Express shipments have separate minimum orders and delivery fees, which can add up.
