"Jumpsuits were originally utilitarian, worn by male industrial workers and parachuters (who were jumping from planes — hence jumpsuit)," says Amanda Constantine, Home & Apparel Reviews Analyst in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab. "Women began wearing jumpsuits as a work uniform during World War I and World War II when they started taking over factory roles historically held by men — think Rosie the Riveter." More form-fitting styles became popular in the 1970s, and today, Constantine notes that "the jumpsuit has recently come full circle, with more traditional utilitarian styles becoming a popular, practical choice yet again." Jumpsuits are one of the most versatile pieces in your wardrobe, easy to style up and down with added accessories.
