When I want to slip out of my pajama set and into something a little more elevated yet still comfortable, I often gravitate towards joggers. Similar in style to cinched sweatpants, joggers are more lightweight and form-fitting pants you can wear while working out, running errands or just lounging around your home.
To find the best joggers for women, we evaluated different styles from top-tested loungewear brands including Athleta, Lululemon, Spanx and more. In the Lab, our analysts took note of construction details and fabrication in addition to working with consumer testers to collect feedback on real-world performance. I tried on five joggers myself to note how well they fit, how the fabric felt and — of course — to take an #OOTD photo.
Here are our favorite women's joggers that are top performers according to experts, editors and online shoppers alike. While we include some pricier options that are worth the splurge, you'll find cozy styles under $25 because if there is one thing our pros like, it's a good deal.

These splurge-worthy joggers are some of their most popular and for good reason; it comes in the brand's incomparably soft, stretchy fabric with a flattering design you can confidently wear almost anywhere. The fabric isn't as thick as sweatpants but more substantial than leggings, making it suitable for year-round wear.
Not only did this pair receive top scores from our testers, but they're also a go-to among several GH analysts for when we want to feel comfortable but still look put-together. This style has a cropped fit that ends above the ankle but is available both in regular (25-inch) and long (27.5-inch) inseams. Even with this longer inseam, some taller testers may find the joggers still too short.

These lightweight joggers are made from a blend of polyester, rayon and spandex that is designed to be soft. Although I did find the fabric to feel a bit scratchy against my skin. The adjustable drawcord is dyed to match the color of the joggers, and I liked the ribbed waistband and ankle cuffs as subtle design details.
Multiple Amazon customers commented on how comfortable the joggers were, praising the perfect fit. One customer appreciated the affordable price point while another said they liked them so much they bought two more pairs. Online shoppers and myself included also liked the deep pockets that can fit a phone.

These joggers are made from the brand's Powervita nylon/Lycra fabric that is buttery soft and super smooth. It performed well in our pill-resistance and moisture-wicking Lab tests, although it didn't receive the best scores for stretch recovery.
Still, testers applauded the material, confirming it was soft to the touch. The joggers are also designed to feel like "a gentle hug," according to the brand, for support while you stretch into a downward dog. Two side pockets are convenient for stowing your phone and keys en route from the car to the yoga studio.
I own multiple Athleta joggers and prefer a thicker waistband such as this one because it feels smooth across my belly and isn't restrictive. Even though the Salutation Jogger is close to $90, my Athleta joggers have lasted over five years (and counting).

The four-way stretch means you can lunge deeper and squat lower at the gym without restriction. I was impressed with how well these pants fit — there was no bagginess in the crouch or back as I often find in joggers. The drawstring waist helped me achieve an even better fit and I appreciated the deep pockets. The elastic ankle cuffs were a little snug on me, but I think a larger size would mean a looser fit in the crouch and back.
The joggers are designed to be breathable and quick-drying, although we haven't tested the latter feature in the Lab. I could see myself wearing this on a run during the fall or winter and even while hiking. The slippery material isn't as luxe as those of other joggers on our list, but the under $35 price makes up for it.

Our pros often recommend Amazon Essentials clothing as an affordable pick that can arrive in as little as two days, thanks to Prime shipping. I was surprised by how soft these fleece joggers felt and how cozy the brushed interior was against my skin. They also have a longer inseam than other joggers I have tried and fell right above my ankle.
I appreciated the adjustable drawstring waist because the small ran large, so I needed the strings for a more secure fit. I do think an XS may have fit better in the waist, but it may have been too tight in the calf and ankle areas. During the winter, soft, drapey joggers might not be enough to weather colder temperatures, but this pair can help keep you toasty. It's lined with fuzzy sherpa material that traps heat to keep you warm without feeling too stiff, thanks to the stretchy fabric.
The brand's HEATTECH clothing has performed well in our tests and these joggers are no exception. Testers loved how warm yet lightweight this pair was. "It's so hard to find pants that are warm but don't weigh me down in the winter," reported one tester. Just note that these pants might be a bit too thick and insulating for mild weather.

I typically prefer joggers with external drawstrings, but I liked the seamless look of these joggers that feature an interior drawcord. The wide waistband provided gentle tummy control and looked flattering. The tapered leg wasn't too tight and added to the seamless aesthetic. I could envision myself wearing these joggers while running, practicing yoga or following a Pilates video.
Several five-star reviews confirmed the pockets are deep enough to fit a phone. One satisfied shopper wrote that the pants "are thick enough to not see through but not too thick where it’s uncomfortable for any ND folks who have any sensory issues." Choose from over 20 colors and patterns (or buy more than one). Another five-star review shared they own almost every color.

Our testers and analysts were blown away by the feel of these pants, with several testers calling the lightweight and airy spacer fabric "cloud-like." This pair has a tapered cut with contoured seams on the back that received top scores for their flattering look.
One tester said, "I couldn't stop wearing them. I've never felt so confident yet comfortable in any other pants." GH product experts and analysts agreed, with several admitting they "practically lived in" Spanx's AirEssentials collection all year, for everything from lounging at home to traveling. Be aware, however, that this jogger style may be too short for taller users.

Universal Standard Luxe Laid-Back Ponte Joggers

Although only available in one color (and currently sold out in three sizes), the Luxe Laid-Back Ponte Joggers check all the boxes. Our pros appreciate that they are designed to retain their shape (although we haven't confirmed this feature in the Lab yet). The breathable fabric blend features elastane for added stretch.
The joggers have a 4.8-star rating on the brand's website, with satisfied online shoppers reporting that the pants are made from a Goldilocks fabric that isn't too lightweight nor too heavy. Other shoppers said the joggers "feel sophisticated without being fussy" and "they’re a dream to travel in, lay around in, dress them up or down."

The clothing brand Quince has risen in popularity as a one-stop shop for stylish staples that won't break the bank. Our analysts love Quince's SuperSoft Fleece Joggers, but select colors are currently out of stock (with more inventory coming soon!). Until then, we recommend the Flowknit Mid-Rise Jogger, which has an almost perfect rating online and more than 1,600 shopper reviews.
These joggers felt super smooth to the touch. I appreciate the longer 27.5-inch inseam because I found the regular 25-inch inseam to be way too short for me (at 5'7"). They also were on the looser side (but not ill-fitting) which I also appreciated because I often find joggers to be too tight in the lower leg area.

Why we love them: Perfect for cold days when you want to cozy up, these joggers are nicer than sweats but are still stretchy and warm.
Move over, sweatpants! These joggers have everything you like about your favorite sweats — thick yet soft, stretchy fabric, a cozy, brushed interior and generous pockets — but with a more stylish look, thanks to the cuffed bottoms and fitted design.
Testers called this pair "lightweight yet substantial" and loved wearing it for lounging at home during chilly mornings. Our analysts appreciate that Under Armour offers this style in multiple inseams. Just note that some testers noticed signs of pilling after frequent use, which is common for joggers made with a blend of different fabrics.

The nylon fabric also proved more durable in our tests, with better pilling resistance than legging-like athletic material and good moisture-wicking properties. The Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab is comprised of clothing experts who have evaluated all sorts of apparel and loungewear, from the best yoga pants to the best sweatpants.
To find the best quality joggers for women, our experts worked with consumer testers to collect feedback on fit, comfort, warmth, style, appearance and more. We considered top-selling styles online as well as GH staffer favorites.
For joggers meant for exercise, our analysts conducted additional in-Lab tests to verify any moisture-wicking claims. To differentiate between the different types of joggers available, we also reviewed the various types of materials and fibers used to help you find the best joggers available for any kind of activity.
What to keep in mind when shopping for joggers
✔️ Type of activity: Joggers typically fall into a few major categories based on the type of intended activity, including but not limited to the following.
- Everyday: These joggers are similar to sweatpants but use lighter fabric (typically midweight) and feature tapered legs with ankle cuffs for a sleek, fitted look. Some styles are brushed on the inside and can be lined with pile or fleece for added warmth during colder months.
- Loungewear/pajamas: This type of jogger typically uses thin, lightweight fabric that feels super soft and drapey against your skin. They're best suited to indoor wear, but some can be substantial enough for everyday wear.
- Workout: Intended for indoor or outdoor exercise, these joggers often feature moisture-wicking performance material you'd expect to find in workout leggings, running shorts or hiking pants.

- Cotton: When used in joggers, this material is most similar to the fabric used in light crewneck tees and can vary from mid-weight to heavyweight. Cotton fleece refers to a brushed fabric typically used for the interior to add warmth.
- Polyester: This is one of the most versatile fibers — it can be blended with other materials or used on its own for a smooth feel. Joggers made with this fabric are often lightweight.
- Rayon, lyocell or modal: These fabrics are often used in pajamas because of its super soft feel and drapey qualities. Modal and rayon are often described as "buttery," while lyocell is called "silky."
- Nylon: Nylon is typically used in workout joggers, either as knit performance material — like the one used for workout tops — or ripstop material — similar to running shorts or windbreakers. Nylon performance material typically offers good moisture-wicking properties, while nylon ripstop has great abrasion and pilling resistance, but may be noisy.
✔️ Inseam: Joggers have a tapered cut with a cinched design at the pant legs, meant to end above the ankle. Tall and petite users may find that these pants can often be too short or long, so many brands offer several inseams. To ensure joggers end where you prefer, measure your inseam and compare it to the inseam of any joggers you're interested in.
✔️ Design features: Most joggers will feature two side pockets and an adjustable waistband. Both pockets and a drawstring waist can make an outfit more casual, says Wu, while internal drawstrings or drawcords can create a sleeker look.
What's the difference between joggers and sweatpants?
Joggers and sweatpants may seem interchangeable at first glance, but there are a few differences in both their fabrication and design. Joggers are usually more form-fitting and slim, with a cinched design or cuffs at the ankle, whereas sweatpants tend to be more baggy with a straight leg. While sweatpants are heavier and meant to trap heat, joggers tend to be a bit more lightweight with breathable fabric. Although nowadays, you can find joggers lined with fleece or pile for colder weather.
How to style joggers for women
I'll admit that I struggle when pairing my joggers with a top. That's why I spoke with Home & Apparel Reviews Analyst Amanda Constantine, our go-to expert at the GH Institute for any and all fashion questions.
"Joggers are notoriously a little difficult to style, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done," Constantine says. If you are heading to the gym for a workout, pair your joggers with a matching sports bra or basic white tee. Alternatively, she recommends having fun with layering if you plan to wear your joggers in a more casual sense like running errands or grabbing coffee with a friend.
"Wear joggers with a matching sweatshirt for a monochrome look, or opt for an extra layer with a puffer vest for texture and contrast," recommends Constantine. You can also slip on a denim jacket or a long, open cardigan to elevate your outfit further, or bring some formality to the look and wear an oversized blazer for a chic yet slouchy look.
