Winter is here, which means it's time to pull out your warm slippers, but if they look too ragged to wear, it's about time for a new pair. If you're on the fence, trust us — sliding your feet into a pair of cozy slippers on a cold morning or after kicking off your work shoes is an amazing feeling that's worth the plunge.

Finding a great pair of slippers can go a long way in keeping your feet comfortable. Fuzzy socks are a great option for providing much-needed warmth, but they aren't as supportive, or even protective, as a good pair of slippers. Walking around on hardwood or tile floors all day, without any helpful shock absorption from your footwear, can lead to achy joints and sore feet. A good pair of slippers can help mitigate that while keeping you warm and cozy.

The Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab regularly tests footwear, like hiking shoes, walking shoes (like Allbirds sneakers) and winter boots to find the most durable and comfortable shoes available. Our Lab analysts and product experts evaluate aspects like fit, support, cushioning, overall comfort and more for each style in addition to verifying any specific brand claims, including those related to recovery or stain resistance. To find the best men's slippers, we researched dozens of options, focusing on material, comfort, ease of cleaning and more before evaluating a select few with consumer testers. The picks below are from top performers in our tests and favorites among GH staff.

Our top picks:

You can read more about how we evaluate men's slippers and our consumer testing process at the end of this article — plus everything you need to consider when shopping for your new slippers. Looking for more ways to stay warm indoors? Check out our guides for the warmest socks and best blankets.

How we choose the best men's slippers

linebreak

To get a sense of what makes a good slipper, our Textiles, Paper and Apparel Lab pros weighed in with their years of experience to help find the best options. We combed online reviews of the most popular slippers on the market, considering material, style, support and durability before testing out a select number of contenders to find the best available. Our analysts then evaluated the construction of each before working with consumer testers to evaluate cushioning, support, fit, comfort and traction of each shoe. Our final list includes both top performers in our tests as well as popular brands with rave reviews.

What to look for when shopping for men's slippers

line break

Slippers come down largely to personal preference, but there are a few differentiating factors to consider when shopping.

✔️ Materials: Slippers and slides come in a wide variety of materials. Here are some that you'll often encounter:

  • Suede is a type of leather that has a soft surface and a napped finish. It's thinner and softer than leather or most woven textiles used in slippers, but that also makes it more vulnerable to damage and scuffs easily.
  • Cotton is known for its soft, breathable feel and natural quality.
  • Wool has great natural temperature regulation and moisture-wicking abilities. Merino wool and cashmere are varieties of wool known for their natural softness.
  • Polyester, nylon and other synthetic materials help add durability and are usually cheaper than fur or suede.

✔️ Additional Features:

  • Style: Slippers commonly cover the front of the foot while leaving the heel exposed, but there are other styles like clogs, slides and boat shoes. Slides are great for anyone who has warm feet but still wants support while boat shoes are great for anyone who wants their whole foot covered.
  • Footbed material: EVA, or ethylene vinyl acetate, is an extremely elastic material that you can find in a lot of slippers. Memory foam is common as well, though it's more prone to wear and tear over time.
  • Soles: Rubber is often used on the bottom of slippers to give traction on slick surfaces. If you're opting for a more sock-like slipper with no sole, make sure there are grippy dots or similar on the bottom.
