If you can't fall asleep without blasting the AC, I may have a solution. Cooling pajamas are designed to help wick away night sweats and regulate your body temperature. While these innovative PJs are not miracle workers, they've helped put me and our testers at ease, including self-described hot sleepers and those going through menopause.
At the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab, we test the best pajamas for every kind of sleeper. To find the best cooling pajamas, we enlisted the help of 35 consumer testers who regularly overheat and sweat throughout the night to try 24 innovative PJs at home. In our Lab, we assessed moisture management (a.k.a. how the fabric responds to night sweats), pilling resistance and shrinkage over time.
Pros
Received perfect scores in moisture management tests
Testers reported the PJs helped regulate their temperature at night
Soft, drapey fabric
Cons
Fabric showed some pilling
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: Night sweats are no match for Lusomé's pajamas. While this sleepshirt is best worn on its own, the brand offers tons of other styles made from the same moisture-wicking fabric.
✔️ LAB RESULTS: The specialized fabric aced our moisture management tests, easily wicking away any sweat so you can feel cool and dry. While the fabric is soft and drapey, it showed some wear after our pilling machine rubbed swatches together 1,000 times.
✔️ TESTER FEEDBACK: Our consumer testers unanimously agreed that these pajamas made a difference in regulating their temperature, and one even said it made a difference in reducing her night sweats. Another called the fabric "so soft and cooling!" A tester who experiences regular hot flashes tried a long-sleeve sleep shirt and shared, "I didn't overheat or wake up in sweat like I normally do."

Cons
Didn't wick away moisture as quickly as others
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: These pajama pants are made from soft, drapey rayon fabric with spandex for added stretch. These are thin and lightweight with a softness you can only get from rayon. They have a loose, baggy fit (similar to sweatpants) with an adjustable drawstring.
✔️ LAB RESULTS: In our initial Lab evaluations, they wicked away moisture with ease, although not as quickly as some of our picks. Still, they're a great option if you're unsure whether you want to invest in cooling-specific sleepwear and want to try some out at a lower cost.
✔️ REVIEWER FEEDBACK: These pajama pants have hundreds of five-star reviews. One online reviewer described them as "ridiculously soft," and I have to agree. Another satisfied shopper shared, "I was able to sleep through the night without any uncomfortable overheating."

Pros
Instantly cooling
Silky smooth feel
Made from moisture-wicking materials
Cons
Pricey
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: Rest makes our best overall cooling comforter, so GH analysts were excited to try out the top-performing bedding brand's cooling pajamas. Although pricey, these silky smooth PJs are made from moisture-wicking nylon and viscose. The top and bottom feature back and side slits, respectively, to create airflow.
✔️ LAB RESULTS: These pajamas performed well in moisture-wicking Lab tests and our analysts found them to be cooler to the touch than other sets we have evaluated. They are, however, a pricier option.
✔️ TESTER FEEDBACK: "When I pulled them out of their packaging, they immediately felt cool to the touch," said Senior Reviews Writer & Analyst Olivia Lipski. The Evercool PJ set kept Lipski cooler overnight, although she wakes up hot on occasion. "What I appreciated most is that whenever I slipped them on, they had an immediate cooling effect," she added.

Pros
Received perfect softness scores
Breathable and lightweight
Improved night sweats, according to testers
Cons
Mixed feedback on appearance
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: This simple sleepshirt by Dagsmejan is designed with a breathable fabric and reversed seams so it feels soft against the skin.
✔️ LAB RESULTS: Dagsmejan makes claims about zinc and eucalyptus that we were unable to verify in our tests, but we still appreciate the overall comfort of this pick. Keep in mind that the fabric is not actually eucalyptus.
✔️ TESTER FEEDBACK: Every tester gave the sleepshirt a perfect score for softness. Its soft, lightweight fabric "almost feels like you are wearing nothing," expressed one tester. "I didn’t sweat as much as I usually do overnight when wearing them," shared another tester.
While some found the shirt to be more stylish than other nightshirts they own, other testers didn't like the appearance because the seams are on the outside. Although this design choice may look odd, it's meant to help prevent irritation or discomfort from the stitching rubbing against skin.

Pros
Classic design
Lightweight and airy feel
Washed well, according to testers
Cons
A tester didn't observe changes in body temperature
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: If you want a classic pinstriped set that still keeps you cool, try these knit pajamas that are lightweight yet retain the structured design of cotton poplin PJs.
✔️ LAB RESULTS: We haven't formally tested these pajamas in the Textiles Lab, but I have been sleeping in these at home and am so far impressed by their moisture-wicking capabilities. Testers reported the pajamas washed well and didn't show major changes in appearance.
✔️ TESTER FEEDBACK: I found these pajamas to feel airy and noticed that they didn't cling to my body while wearing, which is common for many picks on this list due to their fabrication. Testers unanimously gave these pajamas perfect scores for comfort. "I’m a hot sleeper, and they don’t cause me to overheat or break out in sweat at night," shared one tester, while another tester didn't observe a change in their body temperature while sleeping in these. Still, "They feel super comfortable and I cannot wait to put them on as soon as I get home," added the tester.

Pros
Received top scores in laundering tests
Classic silhouette with chic details
Lightweight material feels cool
Cons
Modal is a less impressive material for temperature regulation
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: Eberjey's Gisele set is widely popular and understandably so. It comes in classic silhouettes, from long to short sets and nightshirts, with piped details for a chic look. The modal fabric feels light, soft and drapey and has won over our testers and online reviewers alike.
✔️ LAB RESULTS: This set excelled in our laundering tests, and I can attest to that as I've worn mine for two years. While the fabric can wick away moisture in a pinch and has a general cool-to-the-touch feel, modal generally doesn't stand out when it comes to temperature regulation.
✔️ TESTER FEEDBACK: Testers particularly loved that the set felt lightweight and thin yet not flimsy, especially compared to similar styles. As a result, several testers have opted to wear it year-round, both in hot summer months and chilly winters. One noted, "I didn't overheat like I do with other pajamas."

Pros
Timeless tee pairs with various bottoms
Aced comfort evaluations
Soft and lightweight material
Cons
Received average to good moisture-wicking scores
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: Soma's Cool Nights Collection is one of the most well-known lines in the cooling pajama market. While styles come in and go, you can't go wrong with this classic tee that pairs well with matching shorts or pants.
✔️ LAB RESULTS: The set earned perfect scores from users on overall comfort, but received average to good scores for moisture-wicking during Lab tests. That said, if your night sweats are intense, these may not be the perfect option.
✔️ TESTER FEEDBACK: The drapey rayon fabric was a hit among our testers for its soft feel and lightweight nature. One tester who tried a different style than the one pictured said, "I was skeptical about sleeping in long sleeves and pants because I am such a warm sleeper, but I was in disbelief that these kept me from sweating!"
I've tried several different silhouettes from this collection, and you can't go wrong with any of them. If you want something soft and drapey that won't weigh you down, this pick delivers.

Not the most stylish
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: When it comes to cooling comfort, Cool-jams surprised our testers and analysts alike with its performance. While this set isn't the most stylish in our guide, we like that the brand offers variations with long-sleeve options, shorts and more.
✔️ LAB RESULTS: The set didn't shrink during our laundering tests, though it did pill when we assessed durability.
✔️ TESTER FEEDBACK: While our testers were skeptical that a short-sleeve top and pant set could prove cool and comfortable, Cool-jams ultimately earned full marks for comfort. They said the microfiber fabric was super soft and felt lightweight on their skin.
One textiles analyst reported that her set fit better than other pajamas she's tried and "didn't shift during the night." Another tester remarked, "[These pajamas were] so comfortable, and as someone who generally overheats at night, these were great."

Pros
Breathable fabric

✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: Linen won't feel cool to the touch or quickly wick away night sweats like certain performance fabrics, but linen's hollow-core fibers and loose weave allow for superior breathability that's perfect for year-round wear. These expensive Serena & Lily pajamas use the same fabric as its popular linen sheets.
✔️ LAB RESULTS: This long-sleeved PJ set excelled in tests, laundering well and softening with each wash. The linen fabric also held up better than similar materials we've tested with minimal pilling after extensive testing.
✔️ TESTER FEEDBACK: Testers called this set "comfortable and flattering" and particularly loved the long, wide pant legs.

How we test cooling pajamas

The Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab evaluates all sorts of fabric-based products, including pajamas and cooling materials like cooling sheets. To determine the best cooling pajamas, we conducted Lab tests and worked with consumer testers to evaluate real-world performance and durability.

Our Lab tests for this category specifically focused on fabric strength, pilling or abrasion resistance, shrinkage and moisture management.
To verify moisture-wicking or cooling claims, we used a specialized machine called an MMT, or Moisture Management Tester (pictured), with a synthetic sweat solution in order to analyze how quickly each fabric absorbed and wicked away sweat, how fast the fabric dried and more.
What to look for when shopping for the best cooling pajamas

✔️ Material: We delve into the finer details of each kind of material you can choose from below, but another aspect of material to consider is how thick the fabric is. This depends less on the type of fiber content and more on the construction or weave. A thinner material tends to be more lightweight and breathable.
✔️ Style: As you can tell from this round-up, pajamas are available in a variety of different silhouettes. You can choose between long or short sets as well as sleepshirts or a mix-and-match situation. I’d go with what’s most comfortable for you, and consider whether you want a pullover top or a button-up.
✔️ Fit: Some may prefer a true-to-size, form-fitting set of cooling PJs for optimal moisture-wicking, while others may want a looser fit for more breathability.
✔️ Price: We included a mixed bag of price points in this article, like cooling pajamas for under $20 and splurge-worthy picks that are close to $200. For the most part, though, we find that the best cooling PJs fall somewhere in the middle between about $40 and $80, to just under $150.
What is the best fabric for pajamas to stay cool?

Cooling pajamas often use synthetic materials like polyester, rayon, modal or lyocell for their moisture-wicking properties — but make sure to prioritize your personal preferences for maximum comfort.
✔️ Polyester is a synthetic fiber with excellent moisture management, durability and affordability. These fabrics typically feel smooth and versatile. Microfiber fabrics are typically made of polyester because of the wide selection of fiber sizes available for this synthetic material.
✔️ Rayon, modal and lyocell fabrics often have a super soft and cool-to-the-touch feel. These regenerated cellulosic fibers are considered semi-synthetics and provide moderate moisture-wicking abilities. Micromodal is a fabric made with micro-sized modal fibers for a balance of softness with improved moisture-wicking performance.
✔️ Silk is often said to help regulate your body temperature and maintain smoother skin. Studies show that tossing and turning at night creates friction that can lead to creases in the skin, and dermatologists say that smoother surfaces may gradually reduce this effect over time. Just keep in mind that you should stay wary when presented with unrealistic promises like fewer breakouts or anti-aging benefits.
✔️ Cotton is the most popular fiber in the world for its soft and breathable feel, but it has limited moisture-wicking ability. Because of this, it's not the best choice for preventing overheating or managing night sweats for hot sleepers, unless treated with a finish or blended with a synthetic fiber.
✔️ Linen also doesn't wick away night sweats but it does have a unique texture because of the looser weave of its fabric with hollow-core fibers for additional air circulation and breathability.
How do I know if a fabric is moisture-wicking?

Many cooling pajamas are made from moisture-wicking fabrics like polyester, spandex or micromodal. When your internal body temperature rises and you begin sweating at night, the fabric will wick away moisture from your skin, absorbing it into the fabric and allowing it to spread out widely to quickly dry. This leaves you feeling dry and cool instead of sticky with sweat through the night.
But not all of the supposed cooling or moisture-wicking fabrics we evaluated passed our moisture-wicking test. If you’re unsure about how wicking works, try this mini version of our test (shown below): Place a small drop of water on the inside of the fabric where it touches your skin. The drop should quickly spread out wide. If it beads up on the fabric, it’s not a wicking material.
