As they rise through the ranks in elementary school, 6-year-olds have better communication skills and love engaging in pretend play, says Gayle Kligman, M.Ed, the executive chairman of Family of Kidz. So, when it comes time to get gifts for kids this age, it's great to look for toys that allow boys to continue to build on the skills they've learned at school while adding in elements of imaginative play. It's also great to look for toys and gifts for 6-year-olds that "promote physical activity, attention and cognitive development," says Magdalena Oledzka, P.T., Ph.D. "Social interactions are best for this age group."

Plus, 6-year-olds love to know what's fun and trendy and want "cool" toys, too. The Good Housekeeping Institute enlists actual kids to test toys and give their honest feedback in that regard, while checking them in the Lab for safety and durability. This year, these popular picks rose to the top as the best toys and gifts for 6-year-old boys of 2025. They include both current and former Good Housekeeping Best Toy Award winners, STEM sets, vehicles of all shapes and sizes, family board games and toys that feature their favorite movie characters. So fun!
