Kids love L.O.L. Surprise! Dolls , and it's easy to see why: They're cute, they're fun, they're collectible. But if there's one thing that puts a damper on all of that joy, it's the waste that comes with them. The dolls and the accessories come with layers and layers of packaging, that, until recently, went straight into the trash.

Heeding the call of Mother Nature, L.O.L. Surprise! has teamed up with TerraCycle — a company that calls itself "a global leader in recycling hard-to-recycle waste" — so now the packaging can finally reduced and reused. And, even better, it's free for you!

As busy parents, the thought of putting one more thing on the to-do list seems like torture, but it's actually pretty easy, even for a stressed/lazy parent (like me). Here's how it works: You have to sign up and make an account with TerraCycle. Then, you gather up all the packaging you've let accumulate in the various corners of your living room, and download a free — free! — shipping label to send it all to TerraCycle. And ... that's it. It's really not too labor-intensive. After you drop it in the mail, you can be on your merry way, and they'll melt down the metal and pelletize the plastic.

Once you have an account with TerraCycle, though, you might get into it, and find that other brands you use have their own recycling programs. (Barilla pasta, for example, has one for its Ready Pasta pouches.) Go with it! You can even win rewards that you could put towards good causes, like protecting natural parks. It's a virtuous cycle.

TerraCycle is a company that really walks the walk when it comes to being green: Its founder and CEO, Tom Szaky, even teamed up with the Good Housekeeping Institute to help judge the Good Housekeeping's Sustainability Awards. Who did he pick? The winners will be revealed at the Raise the Green Bar Sustainability Summit in October. L.O.L. didn't make the cutoff for this year's awards, but they can always try to apply next year.
