We know plenty of great infant toys to buy but it's also nice to have age-appropriate playthings picked out by other people, ideally developmental experts. Not all babies have a ton of opportunities to discover new toys through playdates or daycare, so a baby toy subscription box can help round out their toy box. New toys aimed at honing a baby's physical and cognitive learning arrive in the mail on a set schedule that's based on a child's birthday.
Our Good Housekeeping Institute Parenting and Toys Lab experts tried more than a half-dozen baby toy subscription boxes over the past three years. We also had families nationwide test them for our annual Parenting Awards program and our annual Toy Awards.
The three that emerged as our favorites all send baby boxes roughly every two months. All provide toys that align with the Montessori philosophy of self-directed play and learning, so that the child controls each toy and isn't just watching it perform. (If you'd like to read more about that, see our story on the best Montessori toys for 1-year-olds.)
