Once your baby shows signs of being ready to try solid food (like sitting easily, and weighing at least 13 pounds) and you have your pediatrician's go-ahead, it may be time to pull up the high chair. Per American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines, parents can begin to offer purees and soft finger foods to supplement breastmilk or formula typically at around 6 months old.
Back in the day, baby spoons were just miniature versions of adult spoons, made entirely out of metal. Today, baby spoons that are dishwasher-safe are silicone, plastic and/or stainless steel. If you'll be handling the spoon, one with a long handle is helpful since you'll be sitting across from your baby. When you want your baby to wield the spoon themselves, something with a short handle is easier for them to grip. We have both kinds of spoons on our list.
