Purple Carrot

Pros

  • 100% vegan
  • Filters for additional dietary preferences available
  • Innovative flavors and unique vegan ingredients
  • Meal kits and prepared meals both available

Cons

  • Can be expensive

HOW IT WORKS: Purple Carrot is the only 100% dedicated vegan meal kit that ships nationwide. Their globally-inspired recipes put inventive twists on classic dishes, making plant-based eating feel fresh and exciting. Each week, choose from a rotating menu of cook-it-yourself meal kits, fully prepared meals, or a mix of both. Recipes can be filtered by dietary needs, such as high-protein, gluten-free, less than 600 calories, sodium smart, and less prep. You can also add plant-based grocery staples, such as vegan cream cheese and crackers, to your order.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Everything is entirely plant-based, so you can cook with confidence knowing it's completely vegan. The meals are vibrant, flavorful, and far from boring, and I genuinely looked forward to preparing them. Many recipes also introduced me to new flavor combinations I'd never tried before, and I kept the printed recipe booklets to recreate my favorites. Testers agreed, with one calling it "healthier and containing less sodium and fat than other meal kits." Favorites included the spicy quesabirria tacos, almond butter tofu, and sheet-pan cowboy caviar nachos. Another tester said, "The meals were so delicious and fast and easy to make."

TAKE NOTE: I found that some recipes can be more time-intensive than other meal kits, but the results were worth it. At the same time, the prepared meals are tasty and substantial (and even available in some grocery stores, like Target); however, they are on the pricier side for a service that doesn't include meat or other premium proteins. Most of the packaging is recyclable, but there are still many plastic containers—a common drawback with meal delivery services in general.

Mosaic Foods

Mosaic Foods
Credit: Mosaic Foods

Pros

  • All plant-based offerings with a nice vegan selection
  • Affordable family meals
  • Filters for additional dietary preferences available

Cons

  • Limited delivery area

HOW IT WORKS: Mosaic Foods offers hearty, plant-powered meals ranging from veggie bowls to pizzas and soups. While all meals are entirely vegetarian, the vast majority are vegan. I like that the dishes come prepared, delivered frozen, and are ready to heat and eat—a great option for stocking up during busy weeks. You can filter meals by dietary preferences and restrictions, such as vegan, wheat-free, nut-free, soy-free, high-protein, and those with fewer than 450 calories. The service also offers plant-forward family meals, like a veggie pot pie and a broccoli crust pizza, as well as Splendid Spoon smoothies for added variety.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Portion sizes are generous, and the family meals sneak in a lot of veggies, great for families trying to eat more plants. I appreciate that Mosaic clearly lists all ingredients and allergens for each meal. The frozen format also allows you to enjoy the meals at your own pace without worrying about spoilage. Testers appreciated the convenience and crowd-pleasing flavors, with one saying the meals "made eating plant-based so easy! The variety and flavors were amazing. Fast food, the healthy way!" Another noted, "Finally, healthy plant-based meals that my kids can also enjoy."

TAKE NOTE: While frozen meals offer flexibility, some may prefer fresh, and ample freezer space is required. The service also has a limited delivery area, so check availability before placing your order. Just keep in mind that while a wide range of menu items are vegan and the offerings are all plant-based, some do include dairy (particularly several of the family meals).

Best Organic

Green Chef

Green Chef
Credit: Good Housekeeping/Valerie Agyeman

Pros

  • Pre-measured and prepped ingredients save time
  • Plant-based plan includes unique offerings
  • Kits come neatly packaged

Cons

  • Service is not exclusively vegan

HOW IT WORKS: Think of Green Chef as HelloFresh's organic cousin. Not all meals are vegan, but I like that this USDA-certified organic service offers a dedicated plant-based plan with a rotating selection of vegan and vegetarian meals (at least 5 to 7 vegan dishes are available each week). A traditional meal kit, you'll receive pre-portioned ingredients and follow step-by-step instructions to prepare each dish in 45 minutes or less. You can also combine the plant-based plan with other options like gluten-free or keto.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Green Chef is one of my personal favorite meal delivery services because the ingredients consistently feel premium and the recipes are genuinely flavorful and creative, especially the plant-forward offerings. I appreciated how neatly organized everything was in the box, which made it easy to dive in without any prep confusion. Some standout vegan dishes I tried included the harissa apricot chickpea salad, curry-spiced sweet potato wraps, and the black bean and mushroom enchiladas. Testers praised the generous portions and fresh flavors—one shared, "The quality of the food was exceptional. I was very satisfied with the freshness and taste of the meals, just yummy!"

TAKE NOTE: While I loved the end result, some recipes did require more cleanup than I expected (a few needed multiple pans or mixing bowls). The instructions were detailed and included photos, but some testers found them a bit complex. Additionally, although the plant-based plan includes vegan options, not all meals are entirely vegan, so it's essential to double-check if you're avoiding dairy or eggs.

Best Prepared

Sakara

Sakara
Credit: Good Housekeeping/Stefani Sassos

Pros

  • All menu items are vegan and gluten-free
  • Ready-to-eat meals require no prep
  • Dishes are creative, flavorful, and filling

Cons

  • Expensive

HOW IT WORKS: Rooted in organic, nutrient-dense ingredients, this wellness-inspired service offers a structured, plant-based meal delivery program. Each item is vegan and gluten-free. While the brand used to offer more variety, it now focuses on two curated programs:

Sakara occasionally offers limited-time programs, such as the Radiant Refresh Program, which I'm currently trying and enjoying (the meals are honestly exquisite, hearty, and flavorful). I liked that the meals arrive fully prepared and ready to eat, making it incredibly easy to stick with a healthy eating routine without the work of planning or cooking.

WHY WE LIKE IT: The meals feel like something you'd get at a high-end wellness retreat. Both our testers and I were blown away by the quality of the ingredients and the creativity in each dish. Salads are a staple of the program, but you'll also receive chili, stews, grain and noodle bowls, and more. They do a nice job at lightening up comfort food staples, like focaccia, donuts, and even enchiladas. One tester shared, "I loved being introduced to new and interesting ingredients that I had never heard of," said one tester. For me, the meals felt truly nourishing and filling, which is not always a given with plant-based programs.

TAKE NOTE: This is definitely one of, if not the priciest, services on the list. Plus, you're also committing to a set menu with less flexibility in choosing individual meals. It's not for someone looking for variety week to week, but rather for those wanting a structured, ready-made plan with a luxury wellness feel. That said, I never found the meals repetitive, and the ingredients felt elevated enough to keep each dish exciting.

Best Frozen

Daily Harvest

Daily Harvest
Credit: Good Housekeeping/Mike Garten

Pros

  • Large selection of meals and snacks to choose from
  • All items are vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free
  • Sustainable packaging materials

Cons

  • Some meals are not substantial enough per serving

HOW IT WORKS: When I first tried Daily Harvest, it was all about the convenient smoothies—quick to blend, satisfying, and a solid way to start the day. However, the menu now extends far beyond that. You'll find a variety of dishes, including harvest bowls, soups, pasta, bites, and more, made from high-quality plant-based ingredients. Everything is fully vegan, gluten-free, and mostly organic. I especially appreciate how you can manage your order easily: either subscribe via their app or site, choose between nine and 26 items weekly, or pick up Daily Harvest options at grocery stores like Target, Kroger, and Costco.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Daily Harvest nails convenience without sacrificing quality. I'm always impressed by how fresh-tasting everything is, despite being frozen. The savory pastas are especially a hit in my household, and testers agreed, also praising the smoothies and bites. "Even though it's frozen, the food still tastes really fresh," one person said. Favorites included the mint and cacao smoothie, dark chocolate protein smoothie, white bean and spinach pesto, and the broccoli and cheeze bowl. For me, having those smoothies and meals ready in under five minutes is a game-changer, and the brand even uses sustainable packaging materials.

TAKE NOTE: Portions tend to run small compared to other services, and some meals feel more like snacks or sides than full entrees. And while the frozen format offers flexibility, it does require enough freezer space to accommodate a bulk order. Still, for quick, healthy meals made with quality ingredients, it's a smart and easy choice.

It's also worth noting that while there was a recall in 2022 involving the French Lentil & Leek Crumbles, Daily Harvest has since revamped its ingredient vetting process and discontinued use of novel ingredients like tara flour. I tested the service after the recall and evaluated the updated safety measures.

Best For Convenience

Splendid Spoon

Splendid Spoon
Credit: Good Housekeeping/Mike Garten

Pros

  • Over 50 vegan meals to choose from weekly
  • Meals are plant-based and gluten-free
  • Variety of dietary filters to choose from

Cons

  • Meals are lighter fare

HOW IT WORKS: Splendid Spoon delivers fully prepared, plant-based meals that are ready to heat and eat. The menu includes smoothies, soups, noodle bowls, and grain dishes—all vegan, gluten-free, and free from artificial sweeteners. You can choose six, 12, or 18 meals per delivery, and the menu is surprisingly expansive. I like that you can filter options based on specific nutrition goals, such as higher protein, high fiber, lower calorie, lower carb, lower sodium, or lower sugar. Everything arrives frozen, so you can store meals for the week without worrying about spoilage.

WHY WE LIKE IT: I first got hooked on Splendid Spoon thanks to their smoothies (the cacao almond remains my personal favorite). Over time, I started exploring their broader lineup, and as a dietitian, I appreciate how nutrient-dense the meals are without compromising on flavor. Our testers loved the ease and simplicity of having healthy meals ready to go. One shared that the meals included ingredients they "really enjoyed" and wouldn't have picked themselves, while another said, "It was nice to feel that I could open the freezer and not feel overwhelmed." Favorites included the kimchi fried quinoa, "meatball" marinara noodles, and, of course, those smoothies.

TAKE NOTE: Although the meals arrive frozen, testers consistently noted that they still tasted fresh. However, portions tend to be on the lighter side, and some items labeled as two servings may not feel substantial enough on their own. If you're looking for heartier meals, consider supplementing with snacks or sides. And while Splendid Spoon makes plant-based eating easy, the meals may not be suitable for those with higher calorie or protein needs.

Best Variety

Veestro

Veestro
Credit: Veestro

Pros

  • Meals are fresh, not frozen
  • Lower-sodium options available
  • Fully-prepared meals that are exclusively vegan

Cons

  • Limited delivery nationwide

HOW IT WORKS: Offering fully prepared, 100% vegan meals, Veestro dishes arrive fresh and are free from meat, dairy, eggs, fish, and honey. The menu also includes options for various dietary needs, such as gluten-free, soy-free, and lower-sodium selections. Meals require no prep, just heat and eat, making it a convenient solution for anyone looking to eat plant-based without the hassle.

WHY WE LIKE IT: As someone who appreciates convenience, I loved how easy it was to get a meal on the table without any prep work. My favorite dishes were the vegan baked ziti, fajita power bowl, and the kung pao cauliflower, and the menu is expansive with great variety. Our testers also appreciated the generous portion sizes and fast prep time, and that the service avoids refined seed oils like canola oil. One tester said, “I would recommend this service to anyone looking for delicious pre-made plant-based meals.”

TAKE NOTE: Veestro is more expensive than some other services, and its prices remain the same regardless of the number of meals ordered. While the brand previously shipped nationwide with frozen meals, the switch to fresh dishes means delivery is now limited to select regions. Please check your zip code before ordering to ensure delivery is available. Additionally, a handful of meals are marked previously frozen and come at a lower price, so take note of those when making your selections.

Best Gluten-Free

Sprinly

Sprinly
Credit: Sprinly

Pros

  • Meals are ready to eat in three minutes or less
  • High-quality ingredients
  • Every dish on the menu is vegan and gluten-free

Cons

  • Limited menu

HOW IT WORKS: These fully-prepared, plant-based meals from Sprinly are created by chefs and nutritionists and only require a quick reheat in three minutes or less. The menu is smaller than most services and rotates weekly, but what it lacks in variety it makes up for in quality. Everything is vegan, made with 100% gluten-free ingredients, and arrives fresh to your door. I appreciated that the brand sources USDA-certified ingredients and uses heart-healthy fats, such as cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil or toasted sesame oil, depending on the cuisine. Most dishes range between 300 and 650 calories, making them feel balanced and light without being skimpy.

WHY WE LIKE IT: What stood out to me was how thoughtful the meals are from a nutrition perspective. Sprinly focuses on nutrient-dense, whole-food ingredients that feel purposeful in every bite. In the "plantballs", for example, they use organic flaxseeds and chia seeds as the binder instead of breadcrumbs, which is a small detail but shows intention. I also liked that the sodium levels are kept in check, which is rare in fully prepared meals. One tester told us, "The selection is limited, but the meals I received were full of flavor and I felt good after eating them." Some of our favorite picks were the mac and "cheese" with steamed broccoli, Indian roasted vegetable curry, Amalfi lentil bolognese, and the cashew "parm."

TAKE NOTE: The menu is more limited than that of other services and may not work for those seeking a wide variety of options. That said, the weekly rotation helped keep things interesting without overwhelming me with too many choices. And because the portions skew lighter, these meals might feel best suited for lunch or a lighter dinner, depending on your appetite. They are also on the more expensive side for plant-based offerings.

TypePrepared meals
CostMeals range from $16 to $18, with a flat shipping fee of $9.99.

How we test meal delivery services

testing meal delivery services in the good housekeeping institute
Good Housekeeping/Mike Garten

At the Good Housekeeping Institute, our food and nutrition experts rigorously test a wide range of food products and services, including snacks, supplements, meal kits, and subscription boxes. We've evaluated over 50 meal delivery services to bring you the best in quality, performance, nutrition, and flavor.

For each service, we assess how easy it is to navigate the website, the variety and flexibility of the menu, and whether meals cater to a range of dietary preferences. We also examine recipe clarity, cooking accuracy, ingredient quality on arrival, and whether packaging is both protective and sustainable. Cost and delivery coverage are also major considerations.

When it comes to vegan meal delivery services specifically, we focused on brands with robust, nutrient-dense plant-based menus. While many meal kits offer one or two vegan or vegetarian options, we highlighted services here with more expansive selections, including several that are entirely vegan. We prioritized kits that used high-quality produce, offered strong sources of plant-based protein, and allowed for further customization options, such as gluten-free or low-carb options. While taste is subjective, the companies featured here earned consistently high marks from testers.

We believe the brands highlighted above deliver exceptional value in this space; however, the category is growing rapidly, and we continue to test new options regularly to keep this guide up to date. Looking for more options? Check out our guides to the best affordable meal delivery services and the best overall meal delivery services.

How to choose the right vegan meal delivery for you

splendid spoon plantbased soup and smoothie products on a kitchen counter
Splendid Spoon

Our nutrition experts emphasize the importance of incorporating a variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and plant-based proteins into your diet. Vegan meal delivery services often provide well-balanced, flavorful meals. They can be a great way to discover plant-based dishes beyond your usual routine, especially if you're plant-curious or looking for an easy way to get started.

Here are a few key factors to consider when choosing a service:

✔️ Type: Want to cook at home? Traditional meal kits come with recipes and pre-portioned ingredients. Prefer to skip prep and cleanup? Look for fully-prepared options that are ready to heat and eat. Some services offer semi-prepared meals for a bit of both.

✔️ Dietary preferences: All services listed above offer strong vegan menus, but if you also need gluten-free, low-carb, or allergen-friendly options, double-check that those needs are supported.

✔️ Quantity: Cooking for one or feeding a family? Portion sizes and serving flexibility vary, so make sure that the service you choose can accommodate your household size.

✔️ Cost: Consider how the service fits into your budget. Will it replace grocery shopping or supplement it? Look for deals on your first order, referrals, or bulk pricing for larger deliveries.

✔️ Delivery range: Not all services ship nationwide. Confirm that your zip code is covered and be aware of shipping costs (some services do waive fees for larger orders).

✔️ Packaging: Packaging for meal delivery services is inherently challenging to make fully sustainable due to food safety requirements. That said, many brands are finding innovative ways to reduce waste, using recyclable or compostable materials, and most include clear disposal or recycling instructions on their website.

What are the benefits of a vegan meal delivery service?

registered dietitian peeling a sweet potato and testing for good housekeeping's best vegan meal delivery services
Good Housekeeping/Philip Friedman

Whether you’re a dedicated vegan or simply trying to eat more plant-based, a vegan meal delivery service can be a smart place to start. Research suggests that a plant-based diet can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease across all age groups and may also aid in weight management and support gut health. Plus, transitioning to a plant-based diet can significantly reduce your environmental impact, as research shows that eliminating meat can reduce your water footprint by up to 55%.

While a vegan diet offers numerous health benefits, it’s crucial to monitor intake of key nutrients, such as vitamin B12, iron, calcium, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein. A well-designed vegan meal delivery service can fill those gaps by offering diverse, nutritionally balanced meals.

What is the difference between plant-based and vegan?

preparing daily harvest pasta in the good housekeeping institute
Good Housekeeping/Mike Garten

While often used interchangeably, the terms "plant-based" and "vegan" aren't exactly the same. A vegan diet excludes all animal-based products, which means no dairy, eggs, meat, poultry, seafood, honey, or animal byproducts of any kind. A plant-based diet, on the other hand, is more about emphasizing plants as the foundation of your diet. While a plant-based diet is largely free of animal products, it can be more flexible and may include occasional dairy, eggs, or fish.

If you are specifically following a vegan diet, be sure to check the ingredients in the meals you select from a meal delivery service, as options marked "plant-based" may not necessarily be completely vegan. But if you are more lenient, consider browsing our top picks for the best vegetarian meal delivery services.

Can I customize my vegan meal plan for allergies or other diets?

Good Housekeeping/Stefani Sassos

Many vegan meal delivery services also offer additional filters to accommodate other dietary needs. Common options may include gluten-free, high-protein, nut-free, and low-sodium options. However, the level of customization varies by brand, and some menus are more extensive than others.

If you have a severe allergy or specific restriction, it's a good idea to not only review the ingredients in the meals carefully but also contact the service directly to understand how allergens are handled where the food is prepared. Certain services may also list out the common allergens in specific meals.
