Face Moisturizer for Dry Skin

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer

Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer

Pros

  • Absorbs quickly into skin
  • Doesn't leave a tacky or greasy finish on skin
  • Deeply moisturizes

Cons

  • Formula can pill on skin

For rich, smooth and non-sticky hydration, turn to this well-loved (and top-tested!) moisturizer. In Lab testing, 95% of our testers agreed that it absorbed quickly (read: no tacky or greasy finish). "After applying, my skin felt very smooth and soft and that feeling remained all day," one tester shared. Others also praised its texture, saying, "it wasn't too watery or too thick," despite its effectiveness; it also increased skin hydration by 28% in testing. However, if you plan to use this moisturizer during the day, note that it may not be the best to wear under makeup, as it pilled on skin in our tests.

Tinted Sunscreen

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Tinted Sunscreen SPF 50

Anthelios Mineral Tinted Sunscreen SPF 50

Pros

  • Lightweight formula is easy to use for everyday wear
  • Tint helps even out skin blemishes

Cons

  • Offered in only one shade

Broad spectrum SPF 50, water-resistant, fragrance-free and lightweight, this tinted sunscreen is a great everyday go-to. The mineral formula is a favorite of one of our beauty editors who keeps it in her everyday rotation. "The tint acts as a primer to even out my skin," she shared. "I can even wear it on its own without foundation on a light makeup day." One downside: It's offered in just one shade, so it can look orange on light skin tones and too light on darker skin tones.

Award-Winning Sunscreen

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Milk Sunscreen SPF 100

Anthelios Melt-In Milk Sunscreen SPF 100

Pros

  • Can be used on both face and body
  • Leaves no white residue on any skin tone, even with its high SPF

Cons

  • May make skin look a bit shiny

When a product is a Beauty Lab test winner, GH Beauty Award winner and an editor favorite, you know it's good. Despite such a high SPF, in Lab testing, it left an invisible finish with no white residue, even on dark skin.

Testing also found that it felt hydrating but not oily or tacky, was not irritating and could be worn easily with makeup (however, it can leave a bit of a shine on skin). "It leaves zero residue, sticky or oily feel, or white, chalky look on my medium skin," GH Beauty Director April Franzino raves. "It is the most lightweight, perfect sunscreen I have ever used — and best of all, it can be used on both face and body."

4
Anti-Aging Dark Spot Serum

La Roche-Posay Mela B3 Serum Intense Anti-Dark Spot Serum

Mela B3 Serum Intense Anti-Dark Spot Serum

Pros

  • Proven to make dark spots appear less visible and even skin tone
  • Absorbs quickly into skin and doesn't leave any sticky residue behind
  • Doesn't cause redness or irritation

Cons

  • Fragrance may not be ideal for those with sensitive skin
  • Dropper can be finicky

For someone looking for a La Roche-Posay anti-aging product, this dark spot serum is for you. In Lab testing, it performed well across the board, earning high scores for making dark spots less visible, absorbing quickly, evening skin tone and not causing redness or irritation. Many testers also enjoyed the non-sticky texture, with one adding that their "skin tone appeared more even" and they "plan to continue to use it for more results." Good to know: If you're sensitive to scents, there's a floral fragrance in this product. Testers also found the dropper to be a bit difficult to use.

Pros

  • Soothes eczema flare-ups and dry, irritated skin
  • Can be used on sensitive skin

Cons

  • Thicker formula might not be for everyone

Widely loved across our Good Housekeeping editors (and the rest of the world), La Roche-Posay's famed Cicaplast Balm B5 can soothe even the most sensitive skin. The brand is known for its healing mineral water and postbiotics and this balm is the ultimate expression of that, Franzino shares. "It soothes even my worst eczema flare-ups and works equally as well when my skin is just extra dry and irritated," she adds. Note that it is a richer formula to help treat inflamed skin, but some may find it thicker than they'd like.

6
Face Cream for Rosacea

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Rosaliac AR Visible Redness Reducing Moisturizer

Toleriane Rosaliac AR Visible Redness Reducing Moisturizer

Pros

  • Green tint helps mute redness on face
  • Moisturizes without feeling heavy

Cons

  • Needs to be rubbed in well

Those with rosacea-prone skin know how easily skin can become red. To counteract that, try this green-tinted product from La Roche-Posay. "I use this one to tone down redness with its green tint and moisture boost on cold days," says GH Beauty Lab Director Sabina Wizemann. "It is light in texture and needs some rubbing to get the muted effect, but it layers well under sunscreen. It comforts skin without smothering it like a heavier cream may."

Face Wash for Oily and Combination Skin

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser

Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser

Pros

  • Cleanses combination, oily and acne-prone skin
  • Lathers nicely

Cons

  • Not ideal for dry skin types

A "tried-and-true" product for combination, oily or acne-prone skin, GH Beauty Lab Senior Chemist Danusia Wnek loves using this cleanser in the mornings. "I love the foamy lather, and it leaves my skin feeling clean without any tightness or dryness," she adds. Note that it can be a little harsh on drier skin types, though.

8
Face Wash for Acne-Prone Skin

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Medicated Gel Cleanser

Effaclar Medicated Gel Cleanser

Pros

  • Clears pores and mattifies skin
  • Doesn't strip skin

Cons

  • Bottle design needs improvement

Stop breakouts in their tracks with this gel face wash full of effective ingredients. GH Temporary Beauty Editor Celia Shatzman calls it her "go-to" when she's battling breakouts, "thanks to its potent combo of 2% salicylic acid and lipo-hydroxy acid (LHA)." This formula keeps her combination, congestion-prone skin in check: It "keeps my pores clear and mattifies my typically shiny T-zone without stripping skin," she says. "The gel format, gentle foaming texture and crisp scent make for a refreshing combo." Online reviewers also hope for a bottle design improvement, as they report that it can be prone to leaking.

Editor’s Sunscreen Pick

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Milk Sunscreen SPF 60

Editor’s Choice
Anthelios Melt-In Milk Sunscreen SPF 60

Pros

  • Absorbs quickly and easily into skin
  • Leaves no white cast behind

Cons

  • Texture may be too thin for some

With two of our editors recommending this product, we'd be remiss not to include it. "Finding a lightweight sunscreen that actually sinks into skin instantly is a hard feat, but La Roche-Posay did it and did it well," our GH Contributing Beauty Editor Dori Price shares. Shatzman echoes that sentiment: "True to its name, this sunscreen really does melt into skin — barely any rubbing is required before it sinks in without a trace," she raves. "That means re-application is easier too." It's lightweight, hydrating and can be used on both body and face, Shatzman adds. The thin, water-y texture means it absorbs easily, but some may prefer a thicker sunscreen.

10
Eye Cream for Mature Skin

La Roche-Posay Redermic [R] Eyes Intensive Anti-Aging Eye Corrector

Pros

  • Gentle on skin
  • Proven to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles under the eyes

Cons

  • Doesn't moisturize or firm skin very much

Gently and effectively treat undereye skin with this Beauty Lab-tested eye cream that contains retinol and caffeine. In the Lab, testing showed that it absorbs quickly, is gentle on skin (even though it contains retinol) and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Specifically, it improved the look of fine lines around the eye area by 5% after four weeks and showed the highest visual improvement in wrinkle reduction among all products tested. Testers also found that it reduced undereye puffiness, though they didn't report very strong moisturizing or firming benefits. "This cream made my eyes appear well-rested and younger-looking," one commented.

What to look for when shopping for La Roche-Posay products

linebreak

With so many options on the market, it can be overwhelming to decipher what you really need, and where to start. Consider the below when shopping for your next La Roche-Posay skincare item:

✔️ Consider your skin's needs: Make sure you're buying an item that caters to your skin type and needs. Ingredients will differ based on what the product is designed for. Product packaging will usually indicate if it's for dry, oily, acne-prone, sensitive skin or otherwise.

✔️ Don't overdo it: Though you may want to load up on fun skincare, doing so can actually exacerbate existing skin issues or even cause new ones. To keep it simple, you can streamline your routine by starting with a cleanser, moisturizer and SPF (and build from there!).
