Ingredients
For twists
- 2 1/2 Tbsp.
granulated sugar
- 1 Tbsp.
packed dark brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp.
ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp.
ground cardamom
Pinch of kosher salt
All-purpose flour, for dusting
Half batch of Homemade Pizza Dough or 11 oz store-bought pizza dough, at room temp
- 1 Tbsp.
unsalted butter, melted
For glaze
- 1/2 cup
confectioners’ sugar
- 2 tsp.
whole milk, plus more if needed
- 1/4 tsp.
pure vanilla extract
Pinch of kosher salt
Directions
- Step 1Make twists: Heat oven to 375°F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. In small bowl, using fingers, mix together sugars, cinnamon, cardamom, and salt.
- Step 2On lightly floured surface, roll dough into 16- by 6-inch rectangle; brush melted butter all over top. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, leaving 1/2 inch border along 2 short sides. Fold dough in half crosswise, press short sides together to seal, and gently stretch corners to shape into neat rectangle.
- Step 3Using sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut dough lengthwise into 6 strips (each about 1 inch wide). Twist each strip a few times (reserve any sugar mixture that falls out) and transfer to prepared sheet, spacing evenly and pressing both ends of twists onto parchment to help prevent unraveling. Bake, rotating pan after 8 minutes, until edges are set, dough begins to turn golden brown, and sugar is golden brown, 17 to 20 minutes.
- Step 4Meanwhile, make glaze: In small bowl, whisk together confectioners’ sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth and pourable, adding more milk 1/4 teaspoon at a time if needed. Let twists cool on sheet 5 minutes, then drizzle with glaze.
